iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

I had my IPhone X for over two years, and for the majority of that time I didn’t have a case or a screen protector. After a couple of years I definitely had a couple of scratches, but nothing major; it was so impressive! I got my iPhone 12 on release day and it hasn’t had any more than normal wear and tear that my X would go through. No drops, no cohabitation in pockets with keys, nothing like that - but I already have several significant scratches; easily as bad as anything on my 2+ year old X. I’m definitely disappointed; I’ve ordered a screen protector, and I’ll probably be ordering a case as well, but certainly the difference in performance between the X and the 12 seems pretty stark to me.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 12 pro max! Very disappointed!

I have been using Apple products for so long without a protective screen and never had any scratches on the display!! This ceramic display is NOT stronger, it’s weaker!!! 2 hairline scratches in less than a month of purchase! I don’t even carries keys, how did it scratches!!

Actually, iPhone is more difficult to scratch than iPhone 11. JerryRigsAll a very reputable tester of all cell phones out there, does a scratch test on every iPhone released over the last few years. iPhone 11 scratched at a level of Mohs Scale 5.5 - 6. iPhone 12 scratched at Mohs Scale 6.5 - 7. This is not a significant difference and since quartz sand is the most common form of sand in our pockets and elsewhere, iPhone screens can't hold up to the micro particles of sand without getting scratches.

Perhaps before you claim Fake News, you should do some actual research.

Scratch-resistance is not a sign of strength; your screen hasn't shattered, which is a sign of strength.

It doesn't matter what past iPhones did or didn't do, but many older ones had a harder screen which was more scratch-resistant but shattered requiring a $300+ repair at even small drops.

Adding a $30 screen protector at purchase prevents scratches; no screen protector can stop a screen from shattering.

Apple should sell the phone with a screen protector with it, knowing there are concerns with the screen.

They leave it up to customers to decide which protector, if any to get, and I prefer that.

If you disagree with Samsung, you've already paid for it and get to remove it then install yours.

In my case the AT&T store did not have them and by the time Amazon delivery three days later, it was to late. Now I have to spend another 300 to replace a scratched screen, due to the low-quality screens..

There were many, many models available at Apple, Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

Or you could have left it in the box until you had a protector on-hand.

Suggest u buy an iPhone 12 before u publish ur “research”. It’s been unanimous now that the the glass is hard to shatter but easy to scratch. Now I don’t mind spending a couple bucks to get a screen guard if only apple had shared this info. My last 5 gens of iPhones never needed a screen guard despite heavy usage and this phone has a couple within a month. People r cheesed off because this should have been advised by apple.

Not sure why you suggest I buy an iPhone 12. I actually bought two of them. But I'm smart enough to realize glass is glass and glass scratches, so I had screen protectors installed before either phone was ever turned on. As I mentioned, EVERY iPhone ever made could be scratched. Not putting a screen protector on an expensive phone makes as much sense and not buying automobile insurance because you never had an accident.

glass is not glass. There r a lot of categories of glasses available some of them bullet proof. Having worked with phone manufacturers since 2007 I can assure u for a very long time screen guards were not required unless u were obsessive about keeping ur screen pristine. It was really difficult to scratch a Corning gorilla glass. Because iPhone has a silicon fused glass this year it is stronger but way more scratch prone. I asked u to buy iPhone 12 so that u can compare ur older model glass with ur newer one and check for urself.

That's fine. But whether you agree or not, plenty of other people had issues with the screens scratching on their phones. Were they "un"lucky? Or did science simply not work in their favor?

The fact is, no one has ever figured out how to manufacture glass which cannot scratch. Sapphire glass is VERY hard to scratch and why it is the most common glass on watch crystals. Scientifically speaking on a Mohs scale, it is far harder to scratch. But, it's far easier to shatter, so not a good solution for the expansive pane of glass on a smart phone.
