iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

I had my IPhone X for over two years, and for the majority of that time I didn’t have a case or a screen protector. After a couple of years I definitely had a couple of scratches, but nothing major; it was so impressive! I got my iPhone 12 on release day and it hasn’t had any more than normal wear and tear that my X would go through. No drops, no cohabitation in pockets with keys, nothing like that - but I already have several significant scratches; easily as bad as anything on my 2+ year old X. I’m definitely disappointed; I’ve ordered a screen protector, and I’ll probably be ordering a case as well, but certainly the difference in performance between the X and the 12 seems pretty stark to me.

That's your choice of course. I find a good quality screen protector feels absolutely no different from the iPhone screen and wouldn't have an expensive phone without one.

If you don't like them, you'll just have to accept scratches as normal. As to whether Apple or anyone will EVER figure out how to make glass which is harder to break AND scratch at the same time is unknown. No one, including Corning, who makes the glass for Apple and Samsung have been able to create such a mythical item.

This is my 4th iPhone and it's the first time that I have scratches in my sreen. I open my new iPhone 12 last saturday and I've dedicated a cople of hours to transfer my information from my iPhone X, after that I notice that the display of my new Iphone 12 has serveral (at least 6) scratches. I revised carefully all the iPhone when I opended it. I was not exposed to any impact or rubbing that explains the scratches. I'm so disapointed and I feel cheated.

It’s not the same tactile sensation, and the buttons react slower. Hate protectors. The screens used to be much better.

That is absolutely NOT true. A good quality screen protector feels no different than the iPhone screen itself and there is NO delay in touch at all.

Apple installs the Belkin Screen protectors in their stores with a machine which puts precisely in place perfectly. And it feels great.

Had the same issue. Just activated my new iPhone 12 Pro at 11p last night. Its currently 4p the next, and I noticed I have a small (0.5"), but very pronounced scratch by the 7 on the keyboard. Its deep enough that it catches on my nail. I have a desk job and I haven't done anything that would scratch the screen. I had my iPhone XS for 2 years and had no issues with the screen getting scratched. Even after placing it in my pocket with keys.

Very disappointed, especially since its 2021, this shouldn't be a problem anymore.

What miracle in materials science do you think occurred in recent years such that a shatter-resistant, scratch-resistant glass can be produced?

Glass can be shatter-resistant or scratch-resistant, but not both, and in recent years the phone industry has opted for shatter resistance so people don't have to replace $500 screens but can protect from scratches using a $30 screen protector.

You can't really add shatter resistance if they had opted for scratch resistance instead.

Completely new formula glass on iPhone 11 and 12 Series phones. The 12 is slightly harder to scratch than the 11, but both phones are easier to scratch due to the new Corning glass used on all the high end phones these days from Apple, Samsung, Google, etc., which is harder to shatter, but a bit easier to scratch. It's not possible to make glass harder to break and harder to scratch at the same time.

I've only owned one iPhone which I didn't put a screen protector on. My iPhone 6 was naked for one year. Big mistake. At the end of one year, it was all scratched up and I vowed that no phone I ever bought new would even be turned on without a screen protector.

Get one either from Amazon or have one installed at your Apple Store to avoid getting any new scratches. And the screen protector will undoubtedly hide the ones you've gotten already.

I have had my 12 Pro for about a week or so, and at some point I held it up next against a 11 Pro and one of the rear camera lenses of the 11 left a very faint but nice round scratch mark on my display. Guessing that there must have been some dust on the lens which acted just like very fine sand paper + the camera cover is sapphire (to my knowledge) and is harder than the front glass. The worst thing is that its not a single scratch going one direction which would make it invisible from another angles but its basically a scratch in form of a circle which is visible from all angles and very noticeable in bright sunlight.

I do have it in a leather case though.

The thing that upsets me is those things always seem to happen right after acquiring a new device and in the first couple weeks/months when you try to be the most careful because after half a year or so where you would start to suspect that some signs of usage would be showing by now, nothing happens anymore. I did not get one single scratch or anything like that since then.

I've had a 6s for over 5 years that I used without a screen protector but always had in a genuine Apple leather case as well. It had only one tiny nick on the front glass near the bottom corner and that was when the phone slid out of my jacket pocket when I was tying my shoes. The rest of the entire front was immaculate after all those years.
