iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

I had my IPhone X for over two years, and for the majority of that time I didn’t have a case or a screen protector. After a couple of years I definitely had a couple of scratches, but nothing major; it was so impressive! I got my iPhone 12 on release day and it hasn’t had any more than normal wear and tear that my X would go through. No drops, no cohabitation in pockets with keys, nothing like that - but I already have several significant scratches; easily as bad as anything on my 2+ year old X. I’m definitely disappointed; I’ve ordered a screen protector, and I’ll probably be ordering a case as well, but certainly the difference in performance between the X and the 12 seems pretty stark to me.

Has your screen shattered?

The newer screens have enhanced shatter resistance compared to say your iPhone X.

However that makes them slightly easier to scratch than older phones.

In either case, the cheap easy way to prevent damage is to apply a screen protector immediately upon taking it out of the box.

Do not touch the screen, apply the screen protector first.

I’ve replied to this topic once already, it bothered me really bad, so I got another. That said; I’m not a screen-ppf film screen protector type as they look like **** once the edges start peeling and get dust/dirt underneath. So now I have an Apple leather case, and wipe it with a clean slightly damp microfiber rag at the end of the day and haven’t had any issues. Only problem is inevitably it will have to go in my pocket at sometime, so I make sure pockets are dirt free....or it sits somewhere it can’t get touched be anyone. It’s actual work to take care of a 12 pro max. I get it, it’s only a phone....but I’m just ocd. I treat my phone like my car now. They def dropped the apple on this “durable” ceramic screen.

I had mine sent to my home because it was going to be iffy if my store would be open or not.

It turns out they were, but they weren’t doing screen protectors at all they said, so I had to do it myself, and I didn’t get it too wrong.

Of course I had it on hand before my phone even arrived and as I advise I didn’t even touch the screen before I applied the protector.

(Aside from scratches, no worries about dust or cleaning the screen that way. 😁)

I've had the 12 pro max for less than a week and have a scratch. No drops or anything! I had the 7 for almost 4 years before upgrading, after the first year my screen protector fell off and I never replaced it, and I had ZERO scratches or cracks. I'm very disappointed with this "tougher than any smartphone glass". I was surprised to see how many others have this same problem.

Expensive doesn’t mean indestructible but when you’re putting such a high pricetag on something, which was much more than the phone before you expect it to be better than the phone before?! Why would I be paying more for something that is worse?

Also I’m really intrigued to know why you feel like you have to stick up for Apple so much? clearly there are a lot of people in this forum that feel the same that the screen on this phone isn’t good enough.

If your only measure of quality is scratch resistance, you've missed most of what makes the new screens so fantastic. They are 4 times less likely to shatter in a fall. That is hugely higher quality. The almost total lack of complaints here on this, the worlds larges forum for iPhone is testament to the durability of the new screens. Yes, to make a screen harder to shatter, makes it more susceptible to scratches. No one has yet been able to create glass which is equally harder to shatter and scratch. If someone figures that out, they'll become richer beyond their dreams.

In the meantime, since EVERY single iPhone EVER made has been able to be scratched as demonstrated by long threads on "my iPhone screen is scratched" with every phone ever released, logic suggests to protect your very expensive phone, a very reasonably priced screen protector should have been the first thing you applied to your phone.

I’ve owned an iPhone 6+ since new and there are NO scratches on the front screen and I didn’t use any covers for it. I finally decided to move up to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I was excited about the camera capabilities and didn’t think much about the ‘super strong ceramic glass front’ even though it was touted at the store. Then same story as above, I pulled it out of the box and there was a scratch on the ‘super strong ceramic glass front’!!! I’d waited so long for the phone that I sucked it up. Now, less than 6 months in, I have a number of scratches and am ridiculously careful about location in my purse!

This is crap considering the cost and hype! These ‘SUPER STRONG CERAMIC GLASS FRONT SCREENS’ should ALL be replaced free of charge by APPLE!!!
