iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

I had my IPhone X for over two years, and for the majority of that time I didn’t have a case or a screen protector. After a couple of years I definitely had a couple of scratches, but nothing major; it was so impressive! I got my iPhone 12 on release day and it hasn’t had any more than normal wear and tear that my X would go through. No drops, no cohabitation in pockets with keys, nothing like that - but I already have several significant scratches; easily as bad as anything on my 2+ year old X. I’m definitely disappointed; I’ve ordered a screen protector, and I’ll probably be ordering a case as well, but certainly the difference in performance between the X and the 12 seems pretty stark to me.

Why did you then write the following to me: “The iPhone 12 display is more scratch-resistant than the iPhone 11 was.”.

So what you write now contradicts your previous comment to me. I doesn’t make your comments very trustworthy in my opinion. Please enlighten me on the topic - and where you read that the new iPhone is less or more scratch resistant than previous iPhones, because I can’t seem to find that information anywhere in the tech specs.

Cell phone makers as a whole made a decision a few years back to move to glass that was less likely to shatter but was a bit more scratch-prone:

The Verge: WHY YOUR BRAND-NEW SMARTPHONE WILL SCRATCH JUST AS EASILY AS YOUR OLD ONE

The new process used to make screens on the iPhone 12 family makes them more scratch-resistant than the screens on the iPhone 11 family were.

Independent tests by various Internet sites found the iPhone 12 glass to be slightly more scratch-resistant than those on the iPhone 11.

The same thing happened to my iPhone Pro 12, opened a case with Samsung to report the issue however nothing happened and all they said it’s a cosmetic issue. I even reported the topic shared in the community and they didn’t listen or read. I believe it is a quality issue of the screen and nothing like that is not acceptable by the users. This my first time to have iPhone after years with Samsung Note and Google Pixel and I’m very disappointed.

Same here! I used my iPhone 8 Plus for two years and since I still have it I just compared it to my 8-month-old iPhone 12 Pro Max and was shocked by how little to no scratches were on the 8 even though I had traveled to work with it every day, and my 12 had deep scratches all over the screen while I had been working from home the whole time. The metal frame is also scratched and so quite ugly. I’m very disappointed as it was supposed to be their best screen yet for a shedload of money…

Well, I know it now… Thanks for your wise comment but it’s not very helpful. I would have applied a screen protector if I had known the screen was that prone to scratches. I had never used a screen protector on my phones and I was just fine.

This was supposed to be an unbreakable, state-of-the-art screen.

By the way, I did just get a screen protector now at the Apple Store, but it’s too late, the scratches are still very visible. I guess that’s it then.

As stated previously, older screens were a bit more scratch resistant and, as a result, were much more likely to shatter due to an impact, say if you dropped your phone.

Adding a screen protector will prevent scratches from occurring for a small charge; they can’t prevent the screen from shattering after an impact.

Given the option, most people would rather pay $30 for a screen protector than $400 for a new screen.
