iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

Well, after contacting both Vodafone (my upgrade provider) and Apple, the response for both was no replacement.. Apple support encouraged me to write up a proper negative feedback, which i did and neither of them offered any care advice.

After a bit of research I bought a screen protector by Mous Uk, what they call hybrid glass, and Im very happy wt it. It comes wt an applicator and instructions and I cannot notice the scratches underneath it now, also the touch response is the same as not using any protector. I just wish I knew beforehand about this screen flaw in the new models as I would have waited and installed this even before i turned on the phone for the first time. I never had that with previous models, my last Iphone XS was used wt no screen protector for two years and nothing like this happened.

Apple should definitely review and improve this glass screen, this is not good enough for a device this expensive. #unimpressed

Wow. I've had Belkin protectors on all our phones for the last few years and other than one of them needing to be replaced when the phone was dropped on concrete, we've never had an issue with them. We have them on our iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max since before they were even turned on.

Belkin is great about the lifetime guarantee though.

About "peddling" the same advice. What advice exactly would you suggest, since glass can scratch and Apple won't replace anyone's phone for getting scratched? Asking for a friend..........

Unfortunately unless some noise is made no, make sure to fill this out: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Ignore the constant "this is normal" chatter. It's not.

For the others reading this. I remember when the iPhone 6 came out and I was at an Apple store waiting for an appointment (helping a friend get a battery replacement) and overheard something. A lady wanted a screen protector and the Genius said it wasn't required. She was worried about scratches. He pulled out his keys and wracked them across the screen.

No scratches.

I've not put one on my phone since the 4S and this is the FIRST time it's been a problem.

Curious right?

What at risk of dust going on it! What risk exactly! I’ve had all the iPhones and I posted to let people know this is the softest screen I’ve ever used in my lifetime! My scratches aren’t bad but it’s the principle! It was taken out of the box yes but I hadn’t even put my chip in it before it had scratches so potentially could have gotten a scratch as I was putting the case on! This is not acceptable really. The more people who report the more they will have to look into it. Apple have had recalls before

Reading the responses from the people justifying this product performing this way is complete nonsense. What this man is speaking of is exactly what happened to mine. If you’re a true Apple fan and not some obsessed fan boy, you’d prefer they keep up their quality.

I had an X with no screen protector or case for 3 years. NEVER scratched the screen like this. This 12 Pro is EASILY scratched and I work in an office. Admittedly I set it down on the screen to avoid damaging the 3 raised lens in the back.

Now before you start hurling nonsense about screen protectors & cases being required, consider this. I assume these phones are to be used as they come with no protector or case if you are not in an abusive environment. Otherwise what’s the point of designing anything at all if we have to protect the **** out of it? It should be durable enough for normal use. If dropped, etc that would even be an understandable time to say, “you caused this.” Otherwise, it’s just a poor quality product.

This one is maddening because they’re marketing this screen as though it’s the toughest they’ve ever made. I based my decisions on that considering this is the 9th iPhone I’ve owned and never had any other smartphone in my life. That’s great they don’t shatter as easy, but this trade off is likely to affect a LOT of people given how easy this was to scratch in TWO WEEKS of use between home and office. We are talking noticeable scratched that would not even happen to a screen protector. I’m telling you it is SOFT.

Having been on this forum for over a decade, until the glass formula was changed on iPhone 11, multiple people a day came on here to complain about their shattered screen from a simple call and the fact it would cost in the hundreds of dollars to replace it. Those people might disagree with your sentiment when it costs just a few dollars to put a screen protector on an iPhone to protect from scratches.

Your logic is flawed - you shouldn't have to purchase a screen saver after purchasing a $800 phone. The glass should withstand normal use.

Logically speaking, the price of a phone has nothing to do with whether said phones screen can be scratched. Glass is Glass and Glass can scratch. There's only one sure way to avoid scratching any phone screen. Spending a few dollars to put a screen protector on your $800 investment, pays high dividends in protecting the screen.

Actually, iPhone is more difficult to scratch than iPhone 11. JerryRigsAll a very reputable tester of all cell phones out there, does a scratch test on every iPhone released over the last few years. iPhone 11 scratched at a level of Mohs Scale 5.5 - 6. iPhone 12 scratched at Mohs Scale 6.5 - 7. This is not a significant difference and since quartz sand is the most common form of sand in our pockets and elsewhere, iPhone screens can't hold up to the micro particles of sand without getting scratches.

Perhaps before you claim Fake News, you should do some actual research.

That's fine. But whether you agree or not, plenty of other people had issues with the screens scratching on their phones. Were they "un"lucky? Or did science simply not work in their favor?

The fact is, no one has ever figured out how to manufacture glass which cannot scratch. Sapphire glass is VERY hard to scratch and why it is the most common glass on watch crystals. Scientifically speaking on a Mohs scale, it is far harder to scratch. But, it's far easier to shatter, so not a good solution for the expansive pane of glass on a smart phone.
