Usb-c Headphone is not working in iPad Pro 2018 after iPadOS 14 update

I have an AKG USB-C headphone from a Samsung Note 10 Plus device. It was working well ‘before’ the latest update on iPadOS 14. Now, whenever I connect it into my iPad Pro(2018), it does not work.

Before the update, whenever you connect it there was a 2-3 second delay before you can hear sound through the headphone... now, it does not work at all. I am sure the headphone is working coz when it is connected into the Samsung device, you can hear a sound output.

I just bought a 5th gen Pro and had same issue with my Samsung AKG USB_C headphones. Connected them to my Note 10+ and it auto updated the firmware on the headphones. Connected them again to my iPad and after about 1 minute it recognized them and now I am getting sound out of them and all the controls are working properly. Tried again and it took as long for iPad to recognize them. Hope this helps. Playing music through Amazon Music.

I had the same problem. The solution that I found was that I need to plug in the headphone usb c cable such that the Samsung logo faces the screen. If it’s the other way around, it doesn’t work. Once you plug it in in the correct orientation, there is a 5-10 second gap before the audio switches. I know usb c ports should be reversible....but this still is an issue.

My Apple wired earbuds connected by a USB-C to 3.5mm Apple dongle to my iPad Pro 11 2020 running iPadOS 14.3 suddenly stopped working apart from the volume control. When I checked control centre the audio control showed the loudspeaker not the headphones symbol. Apple Support thought that the problem was the Apple dongle which is less than a year old, so they are sending me a replacement. However, I have just tried a hard restart of my iPad Pro and the earbuds are now working again. The audio control in control centre is now showing the headphones symbol instead of the loudspeaker symbol as I expected. I therefore think that this is a software not a hardware issue.

Unfortunately it’s not a “smart function” because it’s a known issue that Apple is working on fixing. You can also get it to work by plugging in the dongle first, and then slowly plugging the headphone cord into the dongle. BUT it will only work for about half an hour before it starts glitching and clicking and introducing static into the Audio. I’m my case, it’s a problem with the Apple usb-c adapters. I tried two of them and they both fail. I bought a good quality aftermarket adapter on amazon and it works perfectly. I had music playing for 6 hours through headphones and no static at all. Both Apple adapters are now in the garbage where they belong.

I have an iPad Pro 2020 11 inch connected by an Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm dongle to my wired Apple earbuds. My earbuds suddenly stopped working apart from the volume control. I found that iPadOS 14.2 was installed. I tried swapping the wired Apple earbuds to those I use with my MacBook Pro with no success. I also checked whether the problem was related to either the Duolingo or Music apps. It was not. I finally remediated the issue by downloading iPadOS 14.3, the current operating system. My earbuds are now working properly again.

Hi Dongsky1108,

We would like to see how we can help with your iPad Pro and the audio issues with your headphones. Please swipe down from the top-right corner to view Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.

If you restart the iPad, does the issue return?

Do you have any other headphones that you can test with the iPad?

Get back to us with these details, and we can go from there.

Cheers!

This is 100% software. I cant believe support would think its anything else. I have the same problem on both my 5th gen and 3rd gen ipad pros since updating to ios 14.6 (before 14.6, earphones connected fine). I connect usb-c earphones, sound control (top right drop down) doesnt switch from the speaker icon to headphone icon, the earphones built in remote adjusts volume and can play and pause music and video fine, but for reasons unknown, the sound comes out the ipads built in speaker not the earphones. Sometimes a restart gets it working, sometimes it doesnt, sometimes reconnecting the earphones many times gets the earphones working, sometimes it doesnt. 100% of the time, the earphones do not work correctly. Tested with different brands of earphones that work fine on android devies.
