iPhone 12 Pro - Call Failed - Verizon

I've had my new 12 Pro for 1 day and cannot make or receive calls. Receive "call failed" message. Can receive and make texts as well as email. Verizon says it is related to 5G outage but it doesn't make sense since LTE and WiFi calling don't work. Anyone having similar issues?

I wanted to update everyone who has been following these post. Verizon was nice enough to send me a new iPhone (12 Pro.)

When I got it today, all I did was activate the cell service over wifi. I did not put any apps or personal data on the phone. It came with software version 14.2.1 I did not update it to 14.3. I turned off automatic updates. Which also in on by default. I made sure Wifi calling was on. (by default its on)

I started to call. Did not drop a single call. It was happening on my older (2) 12pro's every 3 -5 min. I haven't mad 100's of calls yet. But is seems the problem is not there. So it seems to be the update process. Not the update or the Version. My old phones worked fine. My first phone came with a version less then 14.2.1. I updated it to 14.2.1 as soon as I did Wifi calling started to drop. My second came with 14.2.1 it worked fine. As soon as I updated it to 14.3 it started to drop calls.

This phone (which is my third) came with 14.2.1 so far it works fine. I will not update it to 14.3

So again, I think it is the update process that is causing Wifi calling to break. As I make more calls, I will update everyone.

I bought two IPhone 12s (they were identical, both 256 GB) at the same time. With one of them, there hasn't been a single issue. With mine, however, I had the "Call Failed" issue repeatedly. I took the phone to the Verizon store (at the suggestion of Verizon technical support) and the SIM card was replaced. The issue persisted.

I took the phone back to the store and got a new IPhone 12. The issue continues. The other IPhone12 we purchased is being used in the same city, but on another side of town. So is this a location issue that has to do with Verizon towers?

Also, I have had issues with my text messages not producing a notification sound on every occurrence. And I sometimes when I need to click sometimes in the far corners of the phone, I have to repeatedly click the icon to get it to work. These are basic things that should not be issues.

Dear Apple, all of these things are extremely frustrating. I have been an IPhone user for about a decade. My wife bought a new Motorola Edge Plus and hasn't had a single issue.

I have iPhone12pro since beginning of Nov and had no issues. Purchased at BestBuy and have Verizon. For 2 weeks, I’ve started getting ‘calling mobile’ and not connecting or and ‘call failed‘ when calling out. Inbound callers either go directly to voicemail or get nothing. Apple’s issue? Verizon’s issue?

I agree. Verizon replaced my first phone. That is why I have had two phones. I have an open case with Apple. They gave me a few new things to try. Neither has worked.

I have a call set for Friday morning. They download log files form my phone which they said will be given to the Engineeering people to see if they can figure it out. As to when? No clue. I need Wifi calling to work. It might be time for a new brand.

I wonder why it is not happening with everyone phone. My wife has a 12proMax.

she has never had a problem. I have a 12Pro. I can not make calls on Wifi calling without them dropping after 3-5 min on the call. Every time. If anything I think it is software. And maybe it is the update process when one updates the IOS. Not the software itself.

I have always believed that the problem was when the phone tries to go from Wifi to Cellular. When I am on Wifi calling and move further away from my router the problems starts. I believe that at some point the phone see's a stronger single from cellular and attempts to switch. I have strong Wifi throughout my house. But as I move away from the router, the speed and strength does change. That is when I see the problem.

I think you’re on the right track. I think there’s a deeper problem, though, because even when I stay in the same place, I still have sporadic issues making calls. In the middle of a wifi calling call, I can turn off wifi and it switches to cellular seamlessly. So my sense is the phone doesn’t know how to decide when to do that because if it switches when you don’t have adequate signal, then you’ll drop the call.
