iPhone 12 Pro - Call Failed - Verizon

I've had my new 12 Pro for 1 day and cannot make or receive calls. Receive "call failed" message. Can receive and make texts as well as email. Verizon says it is related to 5G outage but it doesn't make sense since LTE and WiFi calling don't work. Anyone having similar issues?

I wanted to update everyone who has been following these post. Verizon was nice enough to send me a new iPhone (12 Pro.)

When I got it today, all I did was activate the cell service over wifi. I did not put any apps or personal data on the phone. It came with software version 14.2.1 I did not update it to 14.3. I turned off automatic updates. Which also in on by default. I made sure Wifi calling was on. (by default its on)

I started to call. Did not drop a single call. It was happening on my older (2) 12pro's every 3 -5 min. I haven't mad 100's of calls yet. But is seems the problem is not there. So it seems to be the update process. Not the update or the Version. My old phones worked fine. My first phone came with a version less then 14.2.1. I updated it to 14.2.1 as soon as I did Wifi calling started to drop. My second came with 14.2.1 it worked fine. As soon as I updated it to 14.3 it started to drop calls.

This phone (which is my third) came with 14.2.1 so far it works fine. I will not update it to 14.3

So again, I think it is the update process that is causing Wifi calling to break. As I make more calls, I will update everyone.

Folks - I am the original poster on this topic and am thrilled to see all the input, albeit dismayed that so many are having issues.

I am on my second device and while the Call Failed issue seems to have subsided for the time being, audio continues to cut out and the person on the other end of the call cannot hear me.

While the majority of users experiencing issues seem to be Verizon, it could be because of Verizon's market share, as users of AT&T and T-Mobile/Sprint have also weighed in expressing similar issues.

I have been in contact with Verizon as well as Apple. Verizon attempted to fix provisioning but it is not really helping all that much. Apple may have bitten off more than they can chew with this latest upgrade.

After tweeting about these issues, I have finally gained the attention of Apple, and an Apple Engineer is attempting to contact me about this issue. Due to differences in schedules, we have been unable to connect just yet, but I am trying to make this a top priority since it is very difficult to conduct business with an unreliable device.

Once I connect with the engineer, I will be back to post if I learn anything of value.

Thanks @hbudovsky

I am going to try the steps you mentioned above.

I have a very similar issue. on EVERY call I've been on a few minutes in, my call disconnects with a "Call Failed" message. I call back and again it holds up for a few minutes and fails again. IF I DISABLE WIFI MY CALLS DO NOT FAIL. With all of my failed calls, I was no more than 10 feet from my Wi-Fi router.

This did not happen with my iPhone X. It does NOT happen for my wife’s iPhone 11 Pro Max or my son's iPhone XS Max. I have extremely fast and reliable internet/Wi-Fi speeds (950 MB down/ 41.5 MB up).

I'll try your procedure and report back shortly.

Today, I decided to call Apple Support and officially open a repair Case; they are sending me a new iPhone 12 Pro Max. I've done enough troubleshooting on my end, which is most everything suggested here in this thread. Lately, I've had to turn off Wi-Fi completely in order to make phone calls without failing. Used to be that all I had to do was turn off "Wi-Fi Calling" in Settings.

These "Call Failed" issues are affecting my work; we are all working from home and making calls on my iPhone is more important than ever since I don't have a landline anymore.

Will post again after receiving my new iPhone.

The issue is likely with Verizon in your area. They are notorious for wanting to blame the phone. Personally I have Verizon and haven’t experienced any of these issues on my 12 Pro Max or the others on my account but in the past it’s been a battle getting Verizon to really try to find the problem. Not to say the issue isn’t with your phone...but doesn’t sound like Verizon even attempted to try and see what could be going on.

As far as them saying you can’t replace the phone...not sure why they would say that IF it’s determined that there is an issue with the phone versus the network then it would be replaced under warranty. Unless they meant it couldn’t be returned for a refund because you’re beyond the return period.

I have this same issue, I don't receive messages and I get the call failed message. This issue comes back over and over on the iPhone 12 after completing all the steps given in the link above.

We need a real solution, not getting important texts and being able to make important work calls is a big issue. I don't want to turn airplane mode on and off every week along with the other steps that are only temporary.

Just got a new iPhone 12 pro max and I have to say very aggravating. I have the same issues call failed won’t send regular sms to androids unless I restart phone or turn airplane mode on/off called Verizon they told me to replace phone. Called apple they said same and if not I’d have to send it to them or make a app with them or replace it again. Should not have to go through all this so ready to switch to android!!!!!!!
