iPhone 12 Pro - Call Failed - Verizon

I've had my new 12 Pro for 1 day and cannot make or receive calls. Receive "call failed" message. Can receive and make texts as well as email. Verizon says it is related to 5G outage but it doesn't make sense since LTE and WiFi calling don't work. Anyone having similar issues?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

I wanted to update everyone who has been following these post. Verizon was nice enough to send me a new iPhone (12 Pro.)

When I got it today, all I did was activate the cell service over wifi. I did not put any apps or personal data on the phone. It came with software version 14.2.1 I did not update it to 14.3. I turned off automatic updates. Which also in on by default. I made sure Wifi calling was on. (by default its on)

I started to call. Did not drop a single call. It was happening on my older (2) 12pro's every 3 -5 min. I haven't mad 100's of calls yet. But is seems the problem is not there. So it seems to be the update process. Not the update or the Version. My old phones worked fine. My first phone came with a version less then 14.2.1. I updated it to 14.2.1 as soon as I did Wifi calling started to drop. My second came with 14.2.1 it worked fine. As soon as I updated it to 14.3 it started to drop calls.

This phone (which is my third) came with 14.2.1 so far it works fine. I will not update it to 14.3

So again, I think it is the update process that is causing Wifi calling to break. As I make more calls, I will update everyone.

What is strange is that my wife has an 12ProMax. 14.2.1 (which it came with) no problems at all. Only difference, she has never updated her phone to any new software update. And my phone worked fine until I updated it to 14.2.1. I got my phone a week before hers. Thus my phone came with 14.2 so I updated it to 14.2.1 same as hers. But she has no issue.

If your new phone is 5G. You would need a 5G sim. So you should have gotten a new one. My wife has a 12Pro max for 3 weeks. Never had a problem. She never did any upgrade of software.

my 12Pro worked great. Until I did an upgrade. The same thing happen to me with two different phones. So I asked my wife not to upgrade. She has not lost a call on Wifi calling.

I purchased an unlocked 12ProMax and used my 4G SIM from my 11ProMax for a few weeks before ordering a 5G SIM card and upgrading my plan.

I was having "Call Failed" issues immediately; turning Wi-Fi Calling off or Airplane Mode on/off after a failed call were the only fix. I initially thought the 5G SIM would be the fix but the problem returned after a few days.

So far I believe that it has something to do with the process of upgrading the software. I have had two phones that came with two different versions of software.

they both worked until I upgraded the software. Even if you restore the software. Make the phone as new out of the box (which now loads the upgraded software) even if it is different then what came with the phone. It does not work.

so I think in the process of upgrade something is changed and does not reset no matter what you try.

that is what I see.

I understand the frustration. There is a problem with the iPhone 12 when the carrier is Verizon. Apple and Verizon have to work together to resolve the problem, and I’m sure they are working on it. But until they do what has been posted are imperfect workarounds.

What you can do, if you haven’t already, is update to iOS 14.3, and contact Apple support using the link at the top of this page so they can log your problem along with others to help them establish the extent of the problem and find the root cause.

I set up my replacement 12ProMax last night. I did my restore from backup attached to my Mac instead of over the air. Sorry to say but I was on 3 work phone calls this morning and all 3 dropped "Call Failed" about 1-2 minutes into our conversations. This was with Wi-Fi Calling on.

Needless to say, getting a new phone has not solved this issue. To finish my remaining work calls for the day, I turned off Wi-Fi (not Wi-Fi Calling) and made all calls through cellular and all were fine.

I'm on a different network in my country and I'm having Called Failed issues intermittently with iphone 12 pro max while another family member have Called Failed issues on iphone 12 pro after upgrading our phones.

On latest IOS14.3, turned of wifi calling, changed 5G to 4G, nothing works. Apple support told me to contact operator while operator replied that could be due to iphone 12 signal receiver weaker. Going to book another trip to Genius bar.

No issues with my 2 iPhone 12 Pro Max devices on Verizon (not sure if this is only happening to those using the iPhone 12 Pro). I remember having similar issues with my 11 Pro Max last year and it took numerous calls with Verizon before a tech figured out it was a provision issue. Not saying that’s any of y’all issue. I just know that Verizon has often said an issue wasn’t on their end when it was.

I think it time to contact apple technology team for help and resolve the issue. It is after lot of iphone 12 pro owners reported the problem of with the phone calls and sometimes caused by careless attitude to upgrading the software, I have noticed causing irritating issues. So much so time to time I am not inclined to upgrade. Good news is after some time apple engineerfigure out how to fix the problem their upgrade caused it.

I am loyal customer of apple for the last 15 years but.....?

I have the same issue and its infuriating. This phone cost over $1,000 and it cannot make 1-800 calls or even call Verizon to 611. I have to use another phone or Google Voice to call customer service lines.

At the beginning I had the issue others were describing and the Verizon Store said it was the SIM card that was failing. I can now call regular numbers, but 1-800 and 611 are a no go.

There is something wrong with these phones or with 5G networks in general. Is Apple going to provide any guidance on a fix because it's unacceptable to sell people $1,000 phones that cant make or receive calls.
