iPhone 12 Pro - Call Failed - Verizon

I've had my new 12 Pro for 1 day and cannot make or receive calls. Receive "call failed" message. Can receive and make texts as well as email. Verizon says it is related to 5G outage but it doesn't make sense since LTE and WiFi calling don't work. Anyone having similar issues?

I wanted to update everyone who has been following these post. Verizon was nice enough to send me a new iPhone (12 Pro.)

When I got it today, all I did was activate the cell service over wifi. I did not put any apps or personal data on the phone. It came with software version 14.2.1 I did not update it to 14.3. I turned off automatic updates. Which also in on by default. I made sure Wifi calling was on. (by default its on)

I started to call. Did not drop a single call. It was happening on my older (2) 12pro's every 3 -5 min. I haven't mad 100's of calls yet. But is seems the problem is not there. So it seems to be the update process. Not the update or the Version. My old phones worked fine. My first phone came with a version less then 14.2.1. I updated it to 14.2.1 as soon as I did Wifi calling started to drop. My second came with 14.2.1 it worked fine. As soon as I updated it to 14.3 it started to drop calls.

This phone (which is my third) came with 14.2.1 so far it works fine. I will not update it to 14.3

So again, I think it is the update process that is causing Wifi calling to break. As I make more calls, I will update everyone.

I have had the exact same issue. Purchased iPhone 12 pro. Someone tries to call me it will say my number is not in service. I try to call someone and it will say called failed. I then have to turn airplane mode on and back off and it will start working again but there is no way for me to know if it is or isn’t working since it says I still have service. Just have to randomly try calling someone throughout the day to know if I have to turn airplane mode on and off again. Very frustrating.

turning airplane mode on and off is the only thing that seems to work out of all the stuff I have tried but that is not a fix. Just a temporary solution.

I'm having a similar issue on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, which I've had for over two weeks. I can receive calls but when I attempt to make a call, I always get "Call Failed". The only way to fix it is to turn off/on Airplane mode for a few seconds and have iPhone search for Verizon service again. Once that's done I'm able to make my call.

I've also heard but not confirmed, that this issue might be related to having "Wi-Fi Calling" setting turned on as the main issue causing this problem. In my situation, call failures still occurred when "Wi-Fi Calling" setting was turned off.

At this point, I'm not sure whether this is a hardware issue, software issue, or a Verizon issue.

Same here. I also don’t have issues when airplane mode is on and wifi calling is on. So somehow the cellular service interferes with the call.

That is very interesting. The network is supposed to switch between Wi-Fi and LTE seamlessly if the signal for Wi-Fi is marginal; that may not be working properly. Go to Settings/Cellular; what do you have for the Wi-Fi Assist setting (near the bottom of the listing)? Does changing it to whatever it isn’t set to help the problem?

On my phone with AT&T it does work as intended; if I move away from my Wi-Fi network while on a call it switches to LTE without interruption. But I also don’t have a 12.

Apple support asked me to restore my phone via computer and not download any of my apps and email accounts and such, which I did.

so with nothing added and WIFI calling on. Still dropped calls using WIFI calling.

I am going to request a new phone. When it comes I will connect to my iTunes account to setup my phone. I will not connect it to my computer. I will not update it the the current software.

I truly believe that the process of upgrade is what is the problem.

my wife has a iPhone 12Pro Max. Has never upgraded the software and only got her info over the air via iTunes account. She has never had a problem. Same house same WiFi as I. She never updated. I did on two different phone which both worked before I updated.

I am not really sure they know.

Well, if you mean Apple or Verizon, they don’t know unless users contact them and tell them. I hope you have done so. Here are several ways to contact Apple:

It’s about as acceptable as selling a device without a plug to charge it. I had the same problem with my iPhone 12 but I had to turn on my airplane mode two days in a row and it seems to be working just fine now. But I was without my phone until I finally got it working. Apple support took down my post about selling a device without including a plug to charge it. Someone told me to use an old one. I don’t buy a phone every time a new one comes out so I don’t have an old one that works with this phone. And what’s the solution for someone that’s buying Apple for the first time?!?
