iPhone 12 Pro - Call Failed - Verizon

I've had my new 12 Pro for 1 day and cannot make or receive calls. Receive "call failed" message. Can receive and make texts as well as email. Verizon says it is related to 5G outage but it doesn't make sense since LTE and WiFi calling don't work. Anyone having similar issues?

I wanted to update everyone who has been following these post. Verizon was nice enough to send me a new iPhone (12 Pro.)

When I got it today, all I did was activate the cell service over wifi. I did not put any apps or personal data on the phone. It came with software version 14.2.1 I did not update it to 14.3. I turned off automatic updates. Which also in on by default. I made sure Wifi calling was on. (by default its on)

I started to call. Did not drop a single call. It was happening on my older (2) 12pro's every 3 -5 min. I haven't mad 100's of calls yet. But is seems the problem is not there. So it seems to be the update process. Not the update or the Version. My old phones worked fine. My first phone came with a version less then 14.2.1. I updated it to 14.2.1 as soon as I did Wifi calling started to drop. My second came with 14.2.1 it worked fine. As soon as I updated it to 14.3 it started to drop calls.

This phone (which is my third) came with 14.2.1 so far it works fine. I will not update it to 14.3

So again, I think it is the update process that is causing Wifi calling to break. As I make more calls, I will update everyone.

Your old plug and cable is certainly compatible. And there are very few first time iPhone buyers who have never had any cell phone, and any cell phone charger made in the past 10 years will work with an iPhone. But if you have never, ever, had any product that required a USB power source you will have to buy one. There might be one or two people in the world in this situation.

My iPhone 6s came with a cord that had a USB end, an outlet plug that the USB end of the cable accepted and the other end of the cord went into the phone. I tried to take a picture of the new cord but it won’t allow me to post it. I took a closer look at the one end of the new cord and it not really shaped like the old camera plug. The new cord has more of an oval, symmetrical end that I have nothing that accepts it to plug it into the wall.

Check with any friends if you don’t want to have to spend too much for that adapter. If anyone has an iPad Pro , MacBook Pro, or had a newer iPhone that came with the usb c plug in instead of the old usb a plug they may have a few around. Otherwise if you have access to Best Buy keep checking their deals of the day. They have often had the adapters and the different cables on their deals of the day for pretty good prices. It’s how I got back up cables and the longer cables (all apple brand). Unfortunately this affects those that are new to iPhone or had not updated to newer iPhones when they switched to the usb c to lightening cables and charging adapters. I understand the idea Apple had but knew it was going to be a problem to those that don’t upgrade as often or don’t necessarily have the other Apple devices that use the same adapter.

The MacBook Pro (2020) comes with the 61 watt power source so the new cord isn’t meant for that one although it can be used. The one “meant” for that one is thicker but can be used on the iPhone. The one that is standard for the cable that came with the 12 series is the 20watt adapter which is $19.99 some places $16.99 Walmart....and if you trust eBay I’ve seen them as low as $7.

There is no problem using the cord that came with the phone with any USB-C power source, so the 61 watt is fine. You can even use the 13 watt that was recommended for the 11, although it will be a little slower. The USB-C standard means that if the plug fits you can use it.

If you have a computer with a USB-C port like the MacBook Pro you can use that to charge and sync the phone.

Why are you hijacking this thread? If you have the same problem start your own thread and title it iPhone 12 Pro - Call Failed - AT&T to avoid confusion.

And you are only the 3rd person here to say you have it with AT&T. Two others have said they aren't having the problem with AT&T. Have you contacted AT&T? Are you using a new SIM or did you move the old one? Post this information when you create your own thread.

In response to @deggie — Wow! How rude. I was responding because I came here to see if there was a solution to my problem. Did you respond to bkyne or ChrisJ4203 in kind?? I made a simple statement to mainly respond to them. It would seem that it is only a Verizon problem but it is not. It seems you are the one getting extremely defensive and hijacking a post, which was not yours to begin with.

I apologize to everybody else for having to scroll through this. Apparently my first 11 words out of 8 pages hijacked a whole post.
