Attempting to open a powerpoint file and when I try to open it, it simply says that there is a problem with the content in the file and powerpoint can attempt to repair. When it attempts to repair, it says 'sorry, powerpoint can't read ^0'.

if ppt on mac won’t open it, it is probably corrupted in some way. secret about current versions of ppt files is that they are actually zip files. you can at least recover the content by using a utility to unzip.
Another possibility is to open Apple's app, Keynote. Then, within that app try having it open the PowerPoint file. If it can open it, then I would do a "save as" and save it as a new Powerpoint file. This may not work, but it's worth trying.
