"You don't have permission to save this file at this location

I have several dozen files in a folder and I need to change them all. I have done about 10 or so and now I get to a file that gives me an error that I do not have permission to save files in this location. I checked the next file and I could save it as a new file. This happens all the time! I have never set up any permissions. Why am I locked out spatially on my own computer!?? Drives me nuts!Error message

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina)

(Disk Utility>View>Show All Devices)

If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Recovery: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

You can run First Aid on all levels

  • Volume
  • Container
  • Device
