iPhone 12 battery drain overnight

My iphone 12 is just 2 days old and I am facing really bad battery drain overnight. I had almost 90% left for couple of days before I had gone to sleep and woke up with a remaining battery of around 65%. The battery chart has nothing for these hours. And moreover my mail push is set to manual and I had turned off wifi, bluetooth, location and mobile data. Is there something I can do to stop this?

It doesn't take much to understand that if your battery drains from 88 percent to 30 percent while IDLE and not being used in the middle of the night, that there's a problem. Doesn't take a level 10 to understand that. It's a problem that needs fixed. This entire thread is exactly about trying to SOLVE that problem. Some level 10's dismiss any discussion about it and write people off as un-intelligent because they don't agree with your bandaid approach of constantly having to plug the phone in. Is it helpful to write people off who are looking for a real solution? Does that qualify as "helping people for many years?" And I'm about to leave this forum for good, as it seems to have some level 10s that are quite dismissive of any other opinion than theirs in regards to my comments. All I got was grief from this forum, and all because I dared to want to solve a big problem with my phone. Shame on me. I should just be quiet and plug my phone in and do as the level 10s say, because they're the smart ones.

Homescreen time accumulates because you are unlocking your phone, swiping through home screen pages etc.

Lockscreen time is basically every time you check the time, a notification lights up the screen when the phone is locked etc.

The only thing you can do to reduce the home/lockscreen time is straight forward, use and check/wake up your phone less. Disable notifications for apps you don't really need to be notified by. Place your phone face down. This will still allow notifications in, but without lighting up the display.

I also have this problem and there is a longer thread about this elsewhere. Try not using bedtime mode if you use that. I noticed that the problem is very visible during the night and always starts at midnight and that happens to be when my bedtime mode activates. Tonight I tried activating bedtime mode earlier in the evening and the phenomena starts right away. A steep battery drain and Siri using 100% background.

Absolute nonsense. Dark mode (at least on OLED devices) is more battery efficient as pixels displaying black simply turn off, thus not using any power. As long as you aren't using your phone above 80% brightness all the time, and dim the screen accordingly to the environment you are in, Auto Brightness itself is only a helper and having it enabled neither uses more nor less battery.

The good thing at this point, considering iOS 14 in general and all the bugs and flaws that snuck into the final releases, it can only get better, am I right lol

If I think of all the people with especially the 12 Mini who did report having a fully charged phone in the evening and then waking up to it having drained completely, it can hardly get any worse than that.

Not to sound like a broken record or repeat after people, but in this case, just plug it in. Otherwise it puts an entire charge cycle on the battery every night + one cycle during the day (considering your usage) and you will have reached the very end of the expected battery lifespan in only a couple more months. (Since you most likely had the phone for at least a year already at this point)

What is running in the background (screen off) so much on your device? Especially what kicks in at night for 5+ minutes every hour. Not that I would fully suspect that to be the origin of the battery drain but still I am curious. Could you screenshot the lower portion of the usage screen?

While everyone is throwing out countless theories of what the cause of the battery drain is, I'll throw one out there that is totally different. First off, last night my new 12 mini battery went from 88 percent to 30 percent in 8 hours overnight while sleeping. I'm using the newest/latest apple fast charger, that I bought from the apple store when buying my phone. Maybe the battery is saying 88 percent, but it's not really 88% charged. Maybe there's something all tangled up in the battery readout. That's a longshot for the cause, but so are all the other posts.

I'm gonna try basically shutting everything down, so it's not running a million processes in the background while sleeping, and even throughout the day. Beyond that, 3 attempts to fix it through apple support have failed. And I'm NOT plugging my phone in at night to mask the problem, just because some people here on the forums insist that's what people should do.

The more I see all these new features, the more I want to go back to a phone that just did 3 things; phone, emailing, and texting. SIMPLICITY. And I'd like to have ONE button that turns off tracking and data mining in every app, every setting, everything. But hey, I'm old school I guess. The more things the phone does for you, the more it, and the company takes from you. And that is absolutely undeniable in a broad sense. Tech is a double-edged sword. It was great at first, but the more advanced it gets, the more it just gets in the way of real life that actually matters. Here comes the "off topic" police, I imagine. Oh well.

This is a discussion about trying to solve a specific problem. The overnight battery drain needs to be fixed, as it's possibly indicative of a larger problem or could lead to other problems. Has Apple come out publicly and said "Dear Apple end users - the massive overnight battery drain is normal, so please always keep your phone plugged in at night." ?? No they haven't. Is it wrong for end users to take note of a sudden dramatic change in how their phones perform at night while they are supposedly idle? I got the Mini because I mostly don't use apps and watch video, etc, thinking I could have a lighter phone and that the battery would be fine. But it turns out even doing NOTHING on the phone, when it should be sleeping, it drains nearly the entire battery on some nights.

And who are you to decide my comments have no value to anyone? That's a pretty harsh thing to say. I'm an individual, just like everyone else with thoughts and opinions. Apple cherishes individuality I thought. But I have no value to you. See, this is what tech brings, chatting on a forum and responding to someone who makes harsh blanket statements not knowing that person.
