iPhone 12 battery drain overnight

My iphone 12 is just 2 days old and I am facing really bad battery drain overnight. I had almost 90% left for couple of days before I had gone to sleep and woke up with a remaining battery of around 65%. The battery chart has nothing for these hours. And moreover my mail push is set to manual and I had turned off wifi, bluetooth, location and mobile data. Is there something I can do to stop this?

It doesn't take much to understand that if your battery drains from 88 percent to 30 percent while IDLE and not being used in the middle of the night, that there's a problem. Doesn't take a level 10 to understand that. It's a problem that needs fixed. This entire thread is exactly about trying to SOLVE that problem. Some level 10's dismiss any discussion about it and write people off as un-intelligent because they don't agree with your bandaid approach of constantly having to plug the phone in. Is it helpful to write people off who are looking for a real solution? Does that qualify as "helping people for many years?" And I'm about to leave this forum for good, as it seems to have some level 10s that are quite dismissive of any other opinion than theirs in regards to my comments. All I got was grief from this forum, and all because I dared to want to solve a big problem with my phone. Shame on me. I should just be quiet and plug my phone in and do as the level 10s say, because they're the smart ones.

Add me to the list. Got my 12 Mini on Jan. 5, got it set up from my XR backup. Charged it to 100% before going to bed. It lost 32% in about six hours. I thought it was due to the phone being new and running background processes. Jan. 6 charged to 100%, but this time I turned off background processes for a lot of apps which shouldn't need it. A lot of good that did because on night two it lost a whopping 62% in six hours!

I've read through this and other threads and read the usual useless motions Apple support suggests. This goes back to the first deliveries in October. My XR was on 14.3 and had no battery problems at all. Fortunately I've still got it and am in the return period for the 12 Mini. I'll give it a few more days, but based on months-long experience of other owners it's not looking good.

OK, how are you level 10? I have owned iPhones since July 2007. I have never kept my phone charging overnight and never needed to. I have kept every one at least two years and never had a battery problem or any noticeable battery life reduction.

In my current situation, I don't have a charger on my side of the bed so charging overnight would require even more of a cash outlay.

My 12 Mini is acting just like the Samsung Galaxy S6 I had briefly before an Android update finally fixed its battery drain. That's not good company for Apple to be in.

I have nothing in my activity overnight, no apps running and had already force restarted yet still lose 20-25% overnight, the reason I don’t plug it in is because I have the 20W power adapter and leaving it charged overnight would be no good to the battery.

The highlighted statement you made is completely incorrect. The battery in iPhone cannot be overcharged. Leaving it plugged in all night with the 20W charger will NOT harm the battery at all.

Of course the iPhone battery cannot be “overcharged,” but it is a fact that leaving a lithium-ion battery at a high state of charge is not good for its long-term state of health. That is why Apple introduced Optimized Battery Charging - to limit the time the battery spends at 100%. But that option is dependent on having a regular charging schedule. My wife and I bought XRs at the same time. She leaves hers on the charger overnight, I don’t. My battery health is several % higher than hers.

I have charged every iPhone I've owned all night long, every night. My iPhone 11 Pro Max after 13 months had a battery health of 100%. Battery health is not based on length of time your battery is charged. It is based on the total number of complete full cycle charges. Even if you charge a battery all night that does not equate to a full cycle charge. If the battery is at 70% when you put it on its charger, and is 100% when you take it off, you will have 1/3 of a full cycle charge. It would take 3 nights of the same scenario to equal one full cycle charge.

I remain firm on my statement that charging your iPhone all night is not harmful, nor will it reduce battery health.

I put my phone on charge every night and often leave it on charge during my working day. 99% battery health on my 11 Pro. I'll need a new phone long before I need a new battery.

I have never had a battery problem with an iPhone since 2007, and never, ever worry about the battery health. The iPhone has good battery management (except for the present problem). But remember Apple did introduce Optimized Battery Charging: "To reduce battery aging, iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it." The fact is, prolonged times at 100% ages a lithium-ion battery whether it's a cell phone or an electric car. I have one of those too, and Nissan advises against leaving it at 100% state of charge for prolonged periods.

2nd Update: I got my replacement 12 mini from Verizon on Saturday. Battery life during the day while setting it up was good, so I was hopeful. Oh, but when night came it dropped about 60% the first night and 48% the second night. So I threw in the towel and set up one of the many 5w chargers I have around to charge it all night.

Battery life today has been great - exceeding my hopes for the small mini. Off the charger at 100% at 7:22 am, and as of 9:12 pm after 14 hours of moderate use it's at 40%. That's comparable to my XR.

The replacement having the same problem tells me it's gotta be a software problem and not hardware, as it's unlikely an iPhone mailed to me from Verizon HQ and the one I got from the local store came from the same batch.

The replacement does have a better screen. The first one had very aggressive Tru Tone settings that shifted it so far to the warm side it looked more like Night Shift. The replacement has more neutral tones more consistent with the LCD Apple screens.

I have been using airplane mode for 5 nights now, I have WiFi and Bluetooth on so my phone isn’t completely disconnected. There is no drain with this settings and that is showing it must have to do with mobile modem in my case. Sins I have WiFi on my phone it isn’t disabled from internet and if it was a app that causes this drain it most likely would drain even in airplane mode with WiFi on.
