default calender from third party - problem

Hi,

In an app I use for booking my gym classes - it's asks me if I want to 'add to calendar'.

When I do that - somewhere along the path it selects one of the calendars I share with someone else - so they keep getting the notifications and events showing up on their devices...

I use about 8 different calendars within iCal for different reasons and share 2 of those, but I can't seem to find where in the process I can change the calendar that this app defaults to...

There is no option on the gym's app to select which calendar the event is created in - and nothing in iCal prefs that I can see would allow me to change it..

Anyone out there with any ideas?!!..

All help appreciated,

Thanks,

Shane

Hi Shane, to summarise your question - you are describing the importation of events from a booking software and asking how to send that event to one of your calendars in the Calendar application. (iCal was renamed Calendar about the time of Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion).

When accepting or importing an event Calendar will ask you for permission to add to the calendar, but it will also indicate which of your calendars to add the event. It's easy to miss this and to accept the event. In this case the event will be added to your Default calendar. You are able, before you accept the addition of the event, to change the calendar destination.

As a more permanent setting, check in your Calendar preferences. From the drop-down tool bar choose Calendar > Preferences. The box that opens has an option in the third division down which asks Default Calendar. Click on the title of the selected calendar and make your choice.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply & help..

With reference to your suggestions...

Firstly, when I select, within the gym app (on my iphone) to send the booking to Calendar - nothing prompts me within that app, or from Calendar, for permission to add it or which calendar choice I have

...Is there maybe a setting I don't have enabled to do with that?...

Secondly, I've tried the default calendar setting in preferences and it doesn't seem to make any difference...from the start, the app has always defaulted to a calendar that is not my default one...odd i know..

I have also tried creating a 'brand new' calendar for the shared events - and then 'unshared' the one that the app was sending the bookings to...I ran a test...and the app SOMEHOW managed to put the event in my newly created calendar...

I just can figure out what's going on 'behind the scenes'....

I have emailed the gym to see if there's anything they can do their end but I don't hold out much hope...

If you have any other suggestions I'd be all ears!!

Thanks,

Shane
