Automatic pause in macOS no longer works with AirPod Ear Detection

It used to be that removing 1 AirPod would cause audio or video to pause automatically, but ever since recent updates, the computer instead will just switch the audio-out device to the speakers. This is not desirable, typically what I'm listening to is not something that I feel like sharing with everyone in the house, so I really don't appreciate it that Apple has made this change. I want to get the old behavior back, so how do I do that?

Howdy CriscoCrusader,

It sounds like your AirPods are no longer automatically pausing. We know how important having a working pair of AirPods is for you. You’re in the right place to find a resolution.

Here's a resource that can help:

Adjust the settings of your AirPods

Specifically, use these steps to make sure ear detection is turned on:

• Turn Automatic Ear Detection on or off

If still having issues, then please Reset your AirPods.
