cursor jumps back when I type the letter y

I'm on year 6 of my second MacBook and the exact same issue that came up with my last one, is starting to happen more and more frequently: about 1/2 the time I type the letter 'y', the cursor jumps up several lines. It does not happen with any other letter, and no, I am not touching the tracking pad. Is this the beginning of the end of this one??

Hello daudrey,

It sounds like the cursor goes up sometimes when you type the letter 'y'.

Here are some resources that can help you isolate this:

Check if this is happening in particular programs.

Create a new user and see if it happens there.

If it doesn't happen in a new users, check for settings in System Preferences for your normal user:
- Change Keyboard preferences on Mac
- See if you could be accidentally hitting the letter 'U' since it's right next to it with Mouse Keys on Control the pointer using Mouse Keys on Mac
- You can also check Accessibility in System Preferences for other keyboard options: Set Accessibility preferences on Mac

If it does happen in a different user, you can follow additional basic Mac troubleshooting steps:
- Restart your Mac
- How to update the software on your Mac
