Can't see Desktop folder on remote Macs

Hello. I needed to get a file from the Desktop folder on a remote Mac. I mounted the remote Mac, but the Desktop folder was not displayed. The remote Mac does not have iCloud enabled for Documents and Desktop folder, so all the files are local to that machine. How do I enable displaying the Desktop folder on the remote machine? I'm connecting from Catalaina to a Mojave Mac.

This only happens when I mount a Mojave Mac from my Catalina Mac. Going the other way around, mounting the Catalina from Mojave, the Desktop folder shows up with the rest of the folders in my home dir. So, the problem appears to be either an issue with the Desktop folder being set as inaccesible (even to the owner), or it's a bug in file sharing in Catalina. The account I'm using is an admin account, and I can see all folders in my home dir *except* the Desktop folder, which is the one I need to get to. Sure, I can move the file, or use Remote Desktop, however the issue is that particular folder should be available for me to get to on the mounted share.

Actually, there isn't a Desktop folder within my home directory. On other Macs I have, there has always been a Desktop folder in my home dir. This seems a bit odd. Is there some command that could have hidden the Desktop folder from being displayed? I checked Finder defaults from the command line and I don't see anything. Any idea why the Desktop folder would not show up in the home dir?
