Mouse pointer size on iOS 14.2

Good evening! When I updated to iOS 14.2, my mouse pointer size became bigger, and I thought it was not normal, I tried to reduce the pointer, but it was still so much bigger. When I turned off AssistiveTouch, my pointer was normal again. So, now I can’t use my mouse with AssistiveTouch turned on, and I need that sometimes, I hope Apple will fix it on the next software update. This is the temporary solution that I’m using.

Well, tell me if you guys have this issue too.

André.

What functionality you mean?

You do not need to turn off the addeptive touch, just turn off "perform touch gestures". This is not bug, they have designed it this way that the pointer act as a finger so it is larger now, if you do not want it turn the "perform touch gestures off". It is not related to your track pad gestures they are ok, it just makes your pointer smaller like before.

I brought iPad Pro and MK for iPad to apple yesterday, It is really hard to describe this problem to a Genius, who is behind a plexiglass screen, and talking through a small hole, and even trying to manipulate the keyboard or iPad to show your existing problem. Solution provided, is simply to swap out my existing keyboard for a new one. They didn't have one available, so they will call me when it arrives. In the meantime, I went and bought a new one at a local store, thinking, I didn't have time to waste in seeing if a new keyboard would do the trick. and also knowing I would bring it back as a return merchandise that I didn't like. I found out immediately, that the new one didn't fare any better. Still the same bug. I again, took up my old one, and reset the whole thing to new, and did a restore using iMazing. No problem there, however AT touch bug still there. I decided to do go to Reset, and Reset all settings. Had to re-input lots of stuff, but not too drastic. Went to AT, turned on, and Off, back and forth, Pointer is working, and right size, and scrolling is working, and AT bubble shows up with customizations. Kept Perform gestures to OFF position. For now, Everything is holding on, and working, but will test next day or two to see if this Reset all settings might have done the trick.

All fixed. Here was my error in trying to fix this problem. When i set out to do what I call a fresh install, I went to Reset, and Reset All settings & Data. I thought that by doing that, the bare iOS would install, then I would have to either manually go through and start from scratch, or Restore from my Backup.Today I learned at the Apple store, that my idea of a fresh install was NOT what I needed , and that I had to go to my Mac, and Reinstall the iOS to " Factory Settings". That was the big distinction. That way, I didn't carry over any weirdness from the internal iOS that kept on being installed, and causing the Assistive Touch problem ultimately. So, if any of you have gone as far as doing what they call a Fresh install to clear up this problem, by the way I was doing it, please try and do it my way, and thanks for letting me know, if you also were successful. I have to say my Assistive touch problem has completely gone away now as of tonight. I had gone to Apple to pick up a replacement Magic keyboard, but upon learning that after trying my existing keyboard with their Demo model, I learned that it was not my keyboard being a problem. So, I left the new keyboard with them, deciding it would be a waste of time. From there, this afternoon, I have solved the problem. Looking forward to learning whether your fixed keyboard became your Christmas present. Here is the Apple link for a Factory install, in case you need it. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201252

Found out that all these glitches occur when connecting the iPad to the Magic Keyboard. Among others, trackpad goes haywire, touch glitches, keyboard illumination flashes uncontrollably, notification bell rings without reason. Tried resetting, unable Assistive Touch but does not work. So I enabled Assistive Touch & disconnected Magic Keyboard for 2 days. When I reconnected today, all glitches magically disappears. All problems came about after the iPad OS 14.2 updates. Now have a problem with spacebar press does not “space” words & having to use Shift+Space after every word. Solved that by clearing attribute to Space bar under Keyboard settings. Hope this helps. Also, enlarged cursor has returned to normal.

Been having the same problems.Found that attaching the Magic Keyboard to my IPad Pro 12.92020 causes among others, keyboard flashing backlights, trackpad glitches, enlarge cursor, touch glitches etc. All efforts incl restarts don’t work. Finally, deactivate Assistive Touch & used iPad without Magic Keyboard for2 days magically solved the problem.

The above fix of "turn off the preform touch gestures" works to a certain extent and probably is a satisfactory fix for most users. That said, I've used the assistive touch option of "top-level window" for a couple of years now and love it. This option allows me to have a subdue button present on the screen that I can toggle with my mouse input. This button acts as a "hot button" and allows me to have a one-touch option for taking screenshots, controlling the volume, etc..) One must have the "assistive touch on" and have the "perform touch gestures" in the on position to use this option. After the 14.2 IOS update, if I leave assistive touch in the on position (allowing the "top-level window" button option), my pointer is buggy and unresponsive. While the fixed mentioned above about "turn off perform touch gestures" does bring the pointer size to the original pre-14.2 size, it does not address the issue of leaving the "assistive touch" on and having access to the "top-level window. I am hoping that an IOS update restores this function.

Cheers!

I have the same issue. I just updated to iPadOS 14.2 and now my mouse pointer size is much larger. I went to settings, accessibility, pointer control and the pointer size is as small as the adjustment allows, but my mouse pointer is almost the size of a dime. Only when Assistive Touch is turned off will the mouse pointer go back to the normal size. This appears to be a bug in the new OS.

iOS 14.3,, all that have this problem. By chance has this new iOS fixed the problem? Even though I see no mention or indication that this bug was quashed. Give a try updating to this new iOS to see if by some miracle they addressed the problem. ½ hour later,, just switched back on Assistive touch. Still jittery, and pointer unreliable. Too bad.

I have an experiment for you, for all those who are still having problems with MK for iPad. Disable Assistive touch while your iPad is still attached to the MK. Take a look at General, Keyboards, and then look for Hardware Keyboard. It isn't showing up (just under Keyboards. Now, take your iPad off the back of the MK, and then put it back. You will see Hardware Keyboard appear. So, now, go to Assistive touch, Enable assistive touch, and in my case, AT still isn't working, it's jitter, and pointer is useless. OK, now, Disable assistive touch, go back to General, Keyboards, (of course keeping your keyboard still attached to your iPad), and go look to see if Hardware Keyboard still appears as a heading under Keyboards. My heading "Hardware Keyboard" has disappeared. I keep going back and forth from enabling AT, taking iPad off and then putting on, and experimenting. Conclusion, somehow the Hardware Keyboard is not recognized when Assistive touch is enabled. Now to find the magic cure to the software recognizing the hardware keyboard. Wanted to see if people still experiencing problems, also can see this problem occurring on their own iPad pro/MK for iPad combos. Thanks for checking. Would like to see if I am alone. By the way, I am now on iOS 14.3, and update did not help

14.4 update did nothing to help. Pointer still occasionally goes bezerk. Have to take my iPad off the Magic Keyboard, and put it back. That sort of restores reasonable useage.. Even clicking on icon to Open app,, is a redo some of the time. 14.4 did not contain any fixes for MK for iPad users, dealing with Assistive Touch. My last post showed I was optimistic, with my last factory restore,, however, I am still not happy. It is obvious, that either this particular community on this subject has given up in silence, or a certain percentage were repaired with recent updates.
