iPhone won’t send pics to Android

Ever since the last iOS update I’ve lost the ability to send pictures to Android users. MMS is enabled, I’ve tried resetting network settings, and with iMessage turned off and on with nothing working. Had anyone else experienced this recently?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 14

Apple engineers gave me a reply back finally and told me they suggest that I back up my iCloud and then I go into my settings - general - reset - erase all content and settings.

it worked, but I’m ****** I had to do that because of all of the unfavorable hoops Apple put me though during this process.

at first the man denied it’s an apple problem, “99% of the time it’s the carrier”.

and then I had to reach back out to them after they said they would call me.. which I didn’t receive, and now I have to redownload all of my apps again and set up my phone like I just spent $1000 bucks on a new phone.

My wife and I have brand new iPhone 12s, and we are both experiencing this same problem that everyone else is experiencing: pictures will not send to Android devices, even though they do send to Apple devices. It seems disingenuous for Apple Support to respond to Customers by listing insultingly-obvious *check-your-wifi* or *enable-SMS-and-MMS* solutions when so many people are suffering this known problem, and the aforementioned settings are all already correct.

My wife’s iPhone XR on iOS 14.3 was having the same issue.

After days of troubleshooting on my own, I finally got T-Mobile on chat and they fixed it.

It was the APN setting. You will also need to turn on MMS in Messaging once you’re done with these steps.

Steps

1. Select settings

2. Select Mobile Data

3. Select Mobile Data Network

4. Scroll to and select Reset Settings

5. Select Reset

6. Select Settings again

7. Select Mobile Data

8. Select Mobile Data Network

9. Enter MMS information

Here's the MMS information for T-Mobile. Google for other carriers info.

APN: fast.t-mobile.com

Username:

Password:

MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

MMS Proxy:

MMS Max Message Size: 1048576

MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

I just read through the entire thread. There were a lot of posts from people who fixed it, and the fixes were different, indicating that the problems were also different. Problem sending MMS is a symptom, not the problem, and can have several possible causes, based on the ways that different people fixed their version of the problem. Some basic ones:

  • Weak cellular signal; moving closer to a cell tower fixed it
  • Had Cellular Data off - it must be on for MMS to work
  • Reset Network Settings - worked for some
  • Turn on Airplane Mode, restart the phone, turn Airplane mode off worked for several
  • Reset All Settings - worked for some
  • Restore iOS in the phone - worked for everyone who tried it
  • Turning off Wi-Fi fixed it for one user, although this is really odd
  • Switch to 3G from LTE - probably because the LTE signal was too weak
  • Sending to an Android that replaced an iPhone - iMessage wasn’t turned off before switching

Hey All!

I know it's been some time since this post, but I just ran into the same issue with my fiancee's new iphone 12 mini not sending pictures to my Motorolla android phone. I fixed it =)

We have Cricket Wireless as our carrier but I'm curious as to whether or not this fix will work on other carriers.

After trying the usual enabling MMS, disable iMessage, reset network settings recommended by every google search result I looked at, I went into (on her iphone 12 mini) Settings> Cellular> Cellular Data Options. Left roaming "Off" but I switched the "Voice and Data" option from LTE to 4G. And instantly the problem was solved.

I believe this is because her iphone supports 5G (assuming due to the fact that LTE would be 5g now, I assume) while my Android does not. Or, the LTE signal in our area is not strong enough to send the message without timing out, not entirely sure.

I had the same problem, and everything I could find in Settings looked right for SMS/MMS messaging. Then I realized that the people I were trying to send to were people I had “Pinned” to the top of Messages. When I “unpinned” them, all my picture functionality came back. I can send them pictures from my camera roll, and I can take a picture directly in the message again. I pinned them back to the top again, and (for now) it seems I can still send pictures, but it would not surprise if I have to unpin them again.

I raised a ticket with Verizon and got a tier 2 tech that fixed the issue. He asked me to remove the SIM card reset all setting and deactivated the sim. Work I. Both the iPhones we have. Took me a while to get to the tier 2 support but got it resolved. Apple did not help much they just made me go in circles, especially when this is a know issue.

I have the same issue. The only thing that worked was to factory reset my phone and set up my phone manually. Don't restore your data from your back up. I was in the chat for over 90 min and once I reset my phone and set it up manually, I was able to send MMS messages to my android contacts. So if you do this, unfortunately you'll have to manually download your apps and contacts but you'll be able to send messages to everyone. Hope this helps.

As I don’t know what you have read in the thread so far, I’ll review it:

  • Do you have Cellular Data turned on, and do you have at least 2 bars of signal? MMS can only use cellular data, it can’t use Wi-Fi
  • Go to Settings/Messages
  • Do you see a switch for MMS?
  • YES, the switch is there: Turn it on. If it is on already, turn it off, and turn it on again
  • NO, there is no MMS switch: Contact Verizon and tell them that MMS is not “provisioned” on your account
  • If Verizon says it is, tell them to reprovision your entire account

As you may have missed it in the previous posts in this long thread, MMS requires cellular data. MMS cannot be sent over Wi-Fi, because it is a carrier service, an add-on to SMS which is also a carrier service, and your carrier does not have access to your Wi-Fi connection from your ISP. So cellular data must be on, and you must have a good cellular network connection to send and receive MMS.

If the problem is just one Android phone it’s possible that the owner previously had an iPhone and didn't disable iMessage before switching. You can also turning on Send as SMS in Settings/Messages, then turning off iMessage.

If you can’t send to any Android phone contact your carrier’s tech support.

Considering Apple clearly hasn’t fixed this issue and doesn’t feel the need to actually respond anymore or give readers any helpful information, this may have to be the only solution, other than saving the money you spent on the printer to put toward a new fancy Samsung instead!

There is nothing for Apple to fix. Sending pictures to non-Apple devices is done using MMS messaging, which is 100% a carrier service. If it doesn’t work only the carrier can fix it.
