WatchOS 7.1 draining battery
Anyone know how to fix a battery drain on WatchOS 7.1? Updated to it last night and my watch won’t last half a day now. Used to last a good 24ish hours before this 7.1 update. (Went from 7.0.3 to 7.1 last night)

I’m sorry but there is no fix..assuming you’ve already set up your watch correctly, but seems to, if you noticed the battery drain!
I have the same problem, I normally stay between 35 and 42 hours of battery but I noticed something wrong in the firsts hours!
over than reboot it, there is nothing more to do
Since 7.1 my battery drain has been the worst it’s ever been. I used to go to sleep with the watch on 100% and wake up with ~90%, now I go to sleep with the watch at 100% and it goes flat during the night! It’s also as bad during the day, only lasts half a day. I’ve factory reset both my phone and my watch and still the issue persists.
Same problem with series 3 !!!!!!
BEFORE OS 7 it was lasting for one full day AFTER its only lasting for 5 hours !!
Even after OS 7.1 still the same issue !!
And i did the unpairing/Pairing and none of that worked for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apple watch s5 44 mm, the same problem after the OS7.1 update, the battery now is not lasting one day, I need to charge the battery twice a day, the draining is approximately 8-9% per hour
i tried restarting, rebooting, and anything else I saw on forums, nothing help !
lets wait for the next update to solve this
Tbh am I the only one who’s lost hope and interest in updating any apple software updates. They dun tend to fix bugs, even when they do, they add new bugs.
I updated my series 6 to watchOS 7.1 and it’s awfully draining my battery. Ngl sometimes I feel like Android devices are having more stability than us do lol
you're not alone! I update my devices only when they are problem or there are new features really useful to me...obviously sometime updates have some security improvements inside but I don't think for normal users, is so important follow any update!
also, don't forget that updates bring bugs and tend to slow older devices! so, don't update if not strictly needed!!
Glad to hear that I ain’t the only one. Tbh I ain’t hyped for any new features, wallpapers and emojis cause I almost use none of them. I juz want them to stabilize everything. The photo album is still acting weird on iOS 14.2. The “one year ago” album juz won’t show anything.
I have the AW4 and I am also having the battery drain issue. However, I just upgraded to the Iphone 12pro and I wonder if the problem is a combination of AW IOS 7.1 and Iphone Pro IOS 14.2.1. I didn't notice the AW battery drain until I connected the watch to the new phone.
I have called customer service 2X's. The 2 agents I spoke to are not even aware of an issue. They wanted me to send the watch in for repair. I have tried everything (suggested in the forums) and nothing will correct the battery drain. I have to charge it 8-9 hours into the day to make it through an entire day. My battery has 100% capacity. Fitbit is looking better and better every day!
Same here. I have a 5th generation and have used it for a little over a year. I use it regularly for runs with Nike Run and my music with no issue until recently. Worst drain ever. I literally take it off the charger 100% charged and 20 minutes into the run it's dead. As other mentioned it was fixed with the previous release but now that my watch has updated to 7.1 the issue is back again.
Apple please fix this issue and in future release test battery drain before rolling it out to the masses.
Looks like Apple WatchOS 7.1 is not compatible with iOS 14 be it any iPhone model. It’s draining battery on iPhones very rapidly. Apple must look into it as this looks like I need to change my watch 4 to watch 6 which I m not gonna do
I just got AW s6 and it was hopeless. Then I learnt to turn off mobile data when not needed eg when in range of phone. It was magic, more than quadrupled battery life from twice daily charge to every two days.
This battery drain issue with my aw4 is still here. I’ve unpaired and paired over a dozen times and reset my iphone. It still drains like crazy. The only way it doesn’t drain is after resetting the watch, do not install any app. If I do that, I can get over 2 days of battery life but if I install any app, even apple’s own app like apple store app ,it will drain at least 12% an hour even if I don’t use my watch at all (ie. while driving to work with no notification being pushed to watch). I’ve tried installing just a single app after resetting the watch to see if certain app was the culprit but it turns out that any single app drains it. I’ve tried it with two different Apples own apps and two other apps Starbucks and fedex. It makes no difference. Once you installed any app, I have to reset the watch to get rid of the battery drain. Simply uninstalling won’t work. So I’m more than ****** apple hasn’t dealt with this issue.
I can say, during 7.1 betas I had those battery hours but after the RC version, the situation has changed again!
Seems the bug slipped back in again. As I have reset mine, it will hopefully be ok as 4 hours use is not good enough, especially as before I still had more battery after 24 hours.
After the reset, my watch seems to be back to normal now. After 7.5 hours it is on 75%
