WatchOS 7.1 draining battery
Anyone know how to fix a battery drain on WatchOS 7.1? Updated to it last night and my watch won’t last half a day now. Used to last a good 24ish hours before this 7.1 update. (Went from 7.0.3 to 7.1 last night)

I’m sorry but there is no fix..assuming you’ve already set up your watch correctly, but seems to, if you noticed the battery drain!
I have the same problem, I normally stay between 35 and 42 hours of battery but I noticed something wrong in the firsts hours!
over than reboot it, there is nothing more to do

Funny, I just posted about this issue. I should have checked first.
My Apple Watch 4 started doing this with 7.1
When 7 came out, I had the same problem and was able to resolve it by basically resetting the Watch (but do not delete mobile plan if you have one).
With 7 it fixed the problem. I am hoping that it will fix it this time too but too early to say as I only just reset it.
Interested to know others’ experience with this too.
Same issue for me with Series 4. Extremely frustrating. Seems to drain about 7-8% per hour when you have GPS running (always drains fast when I am on treadmill or out walking). Otherwise dropping 4-5% per hour without Activity running. I am paired with an iPhone 12 Pro now vs prior X. Have re-paired as a new watch four times and reset multiple times. Nothing seems to work. I’ve literally had one day since OS 7 was launched my watch after 16 hours of use and an hour on the treadmill that it was 61% at the end of the day. Most days I am 30% or less at end of day. Before I could charge every other day if I chose to do so. I also have background refresh off, turned off multiple apps from being on the watch, do not use the hand washing countdown, nor the sound protection. Tried turning off everything I could to try and isolate the issue.
I have everything off too..these are my standard settings since every..so the battery usage comes only from messages, mail and workout..after the RC the situation is worsened!
Just wait, and hope for the usual update....
I have reset my watch 3 times now and the battery continues to drain at a ridiculous rate. Same exact issue I had with 7.0. It does seem the same exact bug is back in the 7.1 version. Unfortunately it's impossible to downgrade back 7.0.2 which fixed the issue.
After some days and few reboots iPhone and watch, the situation seems to be a bit better..yesterday charged at 88% at 5.40pm, after 24 hrs was 48% so in my opinion, reach 2 days with one charge is more than enough!
I have to say, I don’t use any app on my watch, just notifications and it helps with music control/unlock Mac
I have erased, reset and repaired my series 3 at least 3 times since 7.1 was installed my watch. None of it has helped.
today along my watch went from 100% charge to 67% in less than 4 hours. I have boy used gps. Only wearing the watch on my wrist for notifications and not much else.
It’s because Apple want to annoy you to the point you buy the new one. They won’t admit that, but rather imply that are “optimizing” based on older technology. Aka Messi g your your watch until you buy a new one, or leave.
Apple watch 4 series 40mm with the same problem! Before the battery that lasted 2 days is only lasting 1 day, the battery dropped to half the performance !! I tried restarting nothing else, the settings are the same, apple as always forcing the users dow bar !!
Actually I have a 2019 Series 5 and it is plagued with the same issue that was reinserted into WatchOS 7.1... Very annoying as this issue was fixed in 7.0.2!
There s some backend process draining the battery.
Problem solved ... I let my apple watch charge up to 100% next to the iphone, I turned off both devices and turned it on, went back to normal, used the necessary q, I woke up at 8 now it's 18:20 the battery is at 81%
I just bought Apple Watch SE a few days ago and I have the same battery problem. I don't think this is on purpose. I hope they will fix it soon. I had watchOS 7 since I bought them and then I updated to 7.1. I would rather have 7.0.2. I don't really mind waiting few days to get update because I'm still waiting for my iPhone 12 Pro (shipping to Europe is not that great).
My series 4 watches drains at 12-15% per hour! I’m a light user and usually get 2 and 1/2 days per charge. now it dies before I get home from work. I’m extremely frustrated. Apple support can’t do anything either. They just told me my battery capacity is at 92% and both software and hardware are fine.
I don’t think the battery capacity can play a big part..we are not talking about 2-3hrs..but 10-12..
So, considering this problem is not new, we’ve just have to wait!
as I said before, after some reboots iPhone and watch, the situation seems to be quite ok.
no reset needed..but my advice is to set the right settings..mostly of them are not even useful but help to drain the battery
I basically use my watches for notifications and step counting purpose. I don’t use it for calls, gps, music streaming or any other battery draining tasks. I had the same issue with 7.0 but one reset took care of the problem. With this, several resets haven’t improved the battery loge at all. I will try the repeat reboots method.
