No Messages notifications after update to iOS 14.2

Hi.

Yesterday I updated my iPhone XS to iOS 14.2. Today I noticed that since that update, I’m not receiving notifications from iMessages and normal SMS’s in Messages app. New messages arriving but there are no sound or plate, not notification number over an icon too. Messages appear and are marked like a “read” already. It’s very frustrating since I heavily rely on text messages and need to track app by myself to not miss any messages. Sometimes notification appear but mostly there are no sign of new message

I have Apple Watch too and there are no notifications there as well. Only messages appear in conversations.

Any idea what’s the reason of that and where can I search for a fix. My phone is nearly unusable now, since most what I’m doing is texting.

Thanks.

iPhone XS, iOS 14

As far as I know, this is an issue that other people are having as well (including me).

Background app refresh has nothing to do with it. I’ve always had that turned off, way before iOS 14. My guess is that it was the restart that temporarily fixed it, as it does with mine as well, but it’ll start doing it again.

What seems to be going on is that the Messages app behaves as though the chat window is still active, even though you’re either in another app or the phone screen is off. This would explain why there’s no notification sound, banner, or badge when that person sends a new message, unless enough time has passed where the phone finally realizes the chat window isn’t actually open anymore. Brilliant.

Meanwhile, anyone else notice the typing delay is back in Messages as well? Not as often as before 14.2, but still there nonetheless.

Same, but the problem extends beyond just messages. I'm not getting most of my notifications (Ring, Calendar). I've gone in and checked and even changed my settings to persistent made the hapics longer and the settings aren't sticking. One or two notifications will push to my watch but not all of them. I have an iPhone 12 pro and the latest iOS 14.

I already said my problem was not a notifications related problem but I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure that our. I assume some of the people discussing here have an app background refresh problem and they think it is a notifications problem. And I did restart several times before that and that did not help. So my fix to my problem (again not a notifications problem, but barely separable symptoms) was not because of the restart.

I love how this happens or something similar every time a new model phone is released. It’s almost like I don’t have a choice. It doesn’t matter that I just got the last model phone and have kept it in the best condition and babied it and treated it like gold and updated it and kept it protected from all evil. Looks like I’m being forced to buy another.

I have been marking every message that’s been affected with a thumbs up in the hope that info will be helpful for my case and the info the engineers have, otherwise I’ll be waiting for 14.3 to hopefully fix it but it’s seriously annoying. While on the phone to apple I was sending iMessages to myself from a different phone and my phone was locked and did nothing but on the other phone the text was marked as read straight away. So I am hopeful to have enough evidence of the glitch for them to be able to fix it

With my case with apple there was talk that the next fix would be to reset my phone to factory settings so I hope the engineers come back with a solution before resorting to this option 🤦🏼‍♀️ We tried re installing 14.2 in recovery mode, I reset the phone and then put my iCloud back up back on, tried changing messages settings turning the phone on and off and nothing worked. I have to say Alex who I have been dealing with has been great, just a waiting game if the engineers will come back with a solution after I gave them diagnostics data and time stamps of which of my messages were affected by no notifications. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I had an issue where it wouldn’t notify me when I got a message no ping as stated no nothing. What ended up happening was that somewhere in my messages one had failed to send who knows when and it was bugging it to where I wouldn’t receive notifications. I reset all the settings not the phone just all the settings and it worked. Hope this helps anyone.

I have had to same problem and contacted apple support a month ago. I was hopeful at first and sent diagnostics, screenshots and screen recordings of the issue to the engineering team, After a lot of back and forth and I sent more evidence and reports I was called yesterday and was told it "may" be fixed in the next update and to check discussions like this for a resolution. I was absolutely appalled with this response and put in a complaint. If anyone is in the middle of waiting to hear back from the engineering team I would prepare yourself for a similar disappointing response.

I too have an iphone XS, and I am having the same issue since the IOS14.2 upgrade and it is driving me crazy! I would say 30% of my text messages (happening with both Imessage and SMS), I am not getting a notification... no sound, no red number over my message icon indicating a new message, no banner on the screen, nothing!! The weird thing is some texts are working just fine. Others do not. So I know it's not a setting because I have not changed anything. And if it was a setting thing, they would all be screwed up. I have missed important messages. You have to keep constantly checking your message log to see if there is anything new.. who wants to do this? What good is the phone if you don't know when you are getting a text? A lot of texts I receive are time sensitive. I have to tell the people hours or days later oh sorry I just saw this text now. Not good. What is Apple doing about this?? I have tried every work around that people have posted online, and so far nothing is working. Please help!
