ios 14.2 carplay issues

I have an iPhone 8 plus and just recently upgraded to ios 14.2. When I connect my phone to CarPlay it keeps connecting and disconnecting. I bought a new cable to make sure that was not the issue and it did not fix the problem. I can no longer control the music through the buttons on the steering wheel and when I try to control it through the radio the screen says CarPlay not responding. Anyone having this issue with the upgrade? How did you fix this or can it be fixed?

I have an iPhone X and recently upgraded to IOS 14.2 and had a different upgrade caused problem. The CarPlay would load but I could not use the audio knob on the control to select menu items. I would have to select music, podcast, phone etc. on my iPhone to get a different menu item. However, disabling the assistive touch under settings, accessibility resolved my problem. Thanks

We understand your iPhone disconnects from CarPlay while connected since updating your iPhone. We'd be happy to go over some information with you.


We'd like you to try the following steps in order:


  1. If you have a case on your device, we'd like to have you remove the case and test the issue. Do you notice the same behavior without the case?
  2. Forget the stereo from Settings > General > CarPlay > [stereo name].
  3. Forget the iPhone from the settings (stereo user guide for instructions).
  4. Rename the iPhone in Settings > General > About > Name.
  5. Reset network settings on the iPhone - This resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.
  6. If wired CarPlay, test with a shorter Apple approved Lightning cable.
  7. If no shorter cable is available test with another Apple approved Lightning cable.

Since upgrading to IOS 14.2, major issues with CarPlay. I disconnected multiple times, deleted both CarPlay and BT, reinstalled without success.


My wife and I have same phone (iPhone 11Max) and both are ios 14.2. Her phone worked CarPlay in my vehicle, mine didn’t. The only difference was BT.


I deleted BT off vehicle, forgot BT on phone, removed CarPlay and rebooted. CarPlay works perfectly now connected via charging cable.
