I am having problems decrypting Word files on my iPhone 12 Pro (IOS 14.2). When the password is entered, I get a Decryption Failed (null) message. This is happening to two separate encrypted files. This does not happen on my Mac, either in hard drive or Cloud access.
I shut off and turned the phone back on, with no success.
Is there an issue using IOS, or with the phone?

I have the same issue impacting my iPhone and iPad. I found that if I saved the Word doc in format 1997-2003, the docs will open when I enter the correct document password. I currently am using Microsoft 2016 and anything saved as a standard Word doc gives me the decryption failed message. I contacted Apple support and have a case number opened.
Downloading Microsoft Excel App allows me to open a password protected spreadsheet. In the email tap the file icon, then select ‘Open in Excel’ in top right corner and enter password as normal. Better than nothing until IOS 14.2 fix!
Try to click on the document in the email, and then, instead of putting in the password and getting the error message, click on the “up arrow” at the top of the screen and move the document into the Word app. You should then be able to put in the password and open the document.
I transferred one if these files to an iPhone 8 and had the same response. It may be the IOS then.

I changed the file to .doc format and it opened with no problems.

FYI.. I also am not using any Microsoft apps on my iPhone that is having issues opening password protected files in 14.2
Excuse me, you indicated you were trying to open a file on your device. If you are using something other than the Word app to do that, then I misunderstood your problem.
I’ve already got the Microsoft Word app. It would be fine for docs I have saved but I need to open them direct from the email and sadly that doesn’t work.
Thanks for the advice. Still no luck using Iphone XR to open an Excel sheet from one drive, password requested, then error null decryption error.
I think you will need to download Microsoft Excel onto your phone and opening from there until they release a fix.
