Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

i have my iphone 12 here with me still in the box, i’m scared to open it as a quick google search has resulted in many people saying their iphone 12’s have scratched really easily. As i’ve payed £799 i don’t want to scratch it, any answers?

I’m going to go with Samsung.

Your prerogative, of course.

But be aware that the Samsung forums are full of customers complaining how easily their screens scratch, and Samsungs come with a screen protector preinstalled from the factory.

Corning, and the industry as a whole, worked together to move to a glass that is somewhat easier to scratch but is much more shatter-resistant.

You can add a screen protector to protect against scratches; there’s nothing you can apply to a screen to meaningfully protect it from shattering.

from what I’ve researched, I believe there are a significant number of “soft” screens.

If that's the case, then surely someone with one would be happy to gain fame by purchasing or finding a friend or local school with a set of Mohs hardness picks and proving once and for all that their screen scratches at a level below 5.

Not only would that be valuable to the Apple community, it would also gain notice from all the tech sites.

It would be very simple to do and would make for compelling video evidence.

You said you measured 3 - would you be willing to film proof of that?

I'm not being sarcastic, but rather if it is happening, we have no independent evidence of that and your video would be the first, and as I said many people would be interested in seeing that.

I’ve had an issue in the past with a screen protector actually causing scratching one of my phones - when a piece of sand got caught in the edge and the “protector“ kept it in place so wonderfully it scratched the crap out of the corner of my android phone. I forgot to inform you all that I have to wear protective cotton gloves for a skin condition, and screen protectors make it even harder for me to use my phone as it’s not as responsive. Also, screen protectors get scratched and look awful after awhile. And lastly- I switched to Apple specifically so I could avoid using screen protectors for the above stated reasons. I’ve never EVER had a single scratch on any of my previous iPhones (7, 8, or XSMx). Why now, a newer stronger screen on the iPhone 12 should mean superior performance compared to previous models.... the $-tag says it all...

🙄sheesh

Well then, one of their two claims is a lie. It’s either tougher or more scratch resistant, but it sure as **** isn’t both. I had my 7plus since introduction and it did not suffer from cracking or scratching, and believe me there were opportunities for both many times.

it seems to me they are trying to assuage the idiots who put them in their back pockets, then sit on them and fracture the glass.

I value scratch resistance over fracture resistance.

We're all just other Apple users here, no one here cares whether you buy another Apple product or not so your threats are falling on deaf ears.

If you like, you can complain to Apple here:

You didn't apply a screen protector, you scratched your phone, that's pretty much the end of it.

Feel free to choose another vendor next time, but the glass on their phones will scratch as well in the name of enhanced shatter resistance.

In fact, as mentioned above, if you buy a Samsung, you get stuck paying for a screen protector as they include one from the factory.

I’m don’t think anyone is saying all 12s are bad. We’re just here to see if others have had a similar experience. There is a common theme here. I’m not hamfisted (whatever that means) and am treating my phone no different than past phones. We were told these screens are even stronger, so why the scratches and what can be done about it?

I’m still wondering if anyone has asked for a replacement and what their experience has been.

If you’re not having issues with scratches, why are you even here?
