iPhone 12 is so slow

My new iPhone 12 is slow internally and especially when using the internet, even on WiFi. News feed won't even refresh. I'll try opening something from settings and it's even slow to open things that doesn't require internet. I'm constantly turning it off to see if this will help and it doesn't. I'm having a hard time using the internet even with the best wifi, it's almost dial up speeds to open a webpage. Is phone broken or is this normal? My old iPhone XS Max was 100x faster.

I have bought numerous Apple Products in the last 20 yrs and they all “just work” out of the box. During the past several years I have updated my old and new iPhones, iPads, and iMacs through the various major operating system upgrades iOS 11,12,13,14 & macOS on my AirportExtreme(Tall) with no download issues. However, with the purchase of both iPhone mini and iPhone 12 ProMax they BOTH demonstrated the same wifi very slow download speeds with large files. At least it’s nice to know that COX Cable combination Router/Modem “just works” with NO setting modifications. And again customers should not have to be a wi-fi technician to make new Apple products work on exiting Apple products - Apple needs to better test their products for compatibility issues before release.

Without traces, it's hard to know what precisely is going on.

One thing I do know is 6th Generation Airport Extremes did have some heating issues late in their lives so it may be they are overheating on long transfers because their internal fans have failed. I bought two for relatives back then and each has had to replace them due to issues; when you notice the transfers have stopped, the LED on the front doesn't change from green to orange, does it?

I’m having the same issue with my 12. It’s Unbelievably slow. I can’t tell you how many times I’d like to throw it across the room just waiting for a photo to load on Instagram. Streaming is constantly being interrupted. I’ve been on the phone with AppleCare+3 times and they can’t offer any suggestions. I would pay $1000 to have my XS back.

Note that private addresses should have nothing to do with speed for any well-designed router.

Once the connection is made, whether the address is a "private" one or not literally makes zero difference.

Indeed, it makes zero difference on either Apple or Ubiquiti wireless access points.

Where I can see this making a difference is on systems that differentiate between "known" and guest devices, with guest devices being shuffled off to a low bandwidth slow subnet.

If you have an issue with 5G, contact your cellular carrier.

5G is a carrier function; Apple has nothing to do with it.

Quite honestly as with past cellular networks the way 5G has been advertised to the public has little to do with how it actually functions in most circumstances.

You say you don’t use it anyway, but if a private WiFi address has any negative consequence whatsoever, it’s because the WiFi network and/or router were designed specifically to do so or were poorly implemented. There is literally nothing about a private WiFi address that can slow anything down unless a network is making improper assumptions or unless it is programmed to apportion bandwidth differently between known and guest devices.

No the iPhone is slow. I’m on my second i12 pro max in two months. Been on the phone with over 20 techs about 4-6 hrs a day for about 5 days a week for about the first month and 2-3 hrs a days for about 3 days a week until now. Had parts replaced on the replacement I was sent just 28 days after I purchased a brand new one. New touch screen and one week later the touch screen is bad again. I still have slow problems even when I’m getting 150-800 mbps internet speeds. Software updates, network resets, hard resets, carrier support and apple support can’t make this device worth $1600. Can’t even turn the phone off sometimes.

the iPhone 12 is a nice looking paper weight
