My iPhone 12 keeps asking for email password

I recently got an iPhone 12 and set up my hotmail account on the phone through the mail app. In the last few days, it has started asking me to re-enter the password every few hours-now up to 6-8 times a day. I've tried deleting and re-installing the account, but to no effect. I've also installed the Outlook app, and it does not seem to have this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's becoming a real nuisance

I found a temporary workaround for Hotmail (Outlook.com) issues to keep receiving push emails without retyping the PW over and over again: setup Hotmail as imap account, this seems (till now) not affected. Hopefully Apple resolves this annoying problem in the next update!

Receive:

imap server: imap-mail.outlook.com

use SSL: on

Authentication: password

port: 993

Send:

smtp-mail.outlook.com

use SSL: on

authentication: password

port: 587

So, I posted on Twitter and they replied with;

Thanks for reaching out, we can help. First, let’s try closing the mail app and restarting to see if that resolves the issue. If not, follow the steps “Remove your email account and set it up again” in this article next: s.apple.com/dE0b6U6G4A

tried it today, let’s see what happens tomorrow :)

I’ve just raised this in live chat with Apple & got the usual platitudes -

Is your device up to date?

Try deleting the account & start again!

Backup your iPhone & so a factory reset!

Of course all of this is utter rubbish! There was no issue until the most recent iOS updates were installed. They’ve rushed out an update to deal with sone other issue without testing if it causes issues with one of the main Apps!

In the end the rep I spoke to acknowledged this is a problem for a lot of people & that they will be issuing another update to deal with this in the next few days! Here’s hoping they fully test this update to ensure it doesn’t replace one problem with another one!

HI GUYS. I DID POST THIS ANSWER A FEW DAYS AGO BUT I'M NOT SURE IF IT POSTED. ANYWAY! HERE IT IS WITH PICTURES. IT WORKED FOR MY IPHONE 11 PRO AND SEEMS SO FLIPPING SIMPLE. GO TO SETTINGS, THEN SCROLL DOWN TO PASSWORDS. CLICK ON THE PASSWORDS TAB AND THEN CLICK THE AUTOFILLPASSWORDS TAB, IT WILL PROBABLY BE IN THE OFF POSITION. CLICK IT TO THE ON POSITION. HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU, IT DID FOR ME. PLEASE SOMEONE LET ME KNOW. NOT SURE HOW ALL THIS COMMUNITY STUFF WORKS.

I sure wish I had what I would consider a real solution. I believe it would take Apple & Microsoft actually willing to collaborate to find a way to eliminate those irritating requests for passwords. I have pop ups for both hotmail and Outlook. Now all I do is hit cancel for both of them and they stop...for the day. It’s a morning ritual...very frustrating. I honestly have tried everything; and, like you, deleted and reinstalled to no avail. I took my iPhone to my phone provider and all they new was to delete and re-add (like you did) I then called Apple-they said it was an interface issue with Microsoft. I had to call Microsoft. But during COVID they weren’t offering a live person to talk with. I will try again now that services, (in general), are getting better. So...in the meantime-just specify cancel and you will still get and receive email. Hope this helps as a workaround until the culprit company(s) can actually resolve it. Very frustrating, I know.

Guys! I haven’t read all the comments on here so I’m not sure if anyone has come across this possible solution so forgive me if I’m wrong. I did notice one thing on my iphone 11 pro. I don’t normally have my emails switched on so when I want to check my emails I go to settings, scroll down to Mail and switch on my hotmail (outlook) on. What I did notice is, above Mail, there is (passwords) I thought I’d give it a click, It had a tab called “AutoFill Passwords. I clicked on this and found the tab switched to the off position. Can some of you guys check this, it may be the answer. Toodle pip

Don't see this issue on the 2 android devices I have (or the 3rd I used to use until a few months ago).

Never had this issue before upgrading to iOS 14.

Don't have this issue with other apps on iOS, or on my PC.

Only occurs with the default Mail app on iOS 14, on multiple iOS devices (not the same hotmail accounts either, wife and I both have this issue).

So yes, I'd say in this case, it's iOS and mail app specific.

It was happening to me until I got fed up and loaded the outlook app, since then, more than a week ago it hasn’t asked again.

i can’t explain it but it works for me. I can see my mail from both outlook accounts in either app. 🙄

But agree with everyone here, started with 14.2 so unless 🍏 are dumping the iPhone, they had better sort it out and soon. Email accounts work fine on old iPad that is incompatible with 14.2 Thank god for old tech.
