Monitor Support - LG38WK95C or LG38WN95C - will they work?

Hi - I'm looking at buying one of these two monitors.

The 38WK is a little older, and a very good price, the 38WN is newer, more expensive.

I spoke to LG to clarify the difference between the two, to ask whether either would work with present and future Macs, and I'm not happy with their answer - they said I needed to get the newer one as it has Thunderbolt 3. They didn't ask which Mac I had - I guess they assumed it was a new one.

My current MacBook (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) and has 2 USB 3.00, and 2 thunderbolt 2.00 connectors.

The older 38WK95C has these inputs/outputs

HDMI - Yes (ver2.0, 2ea)

DisplayPort - Yes (ver1.2)

USB Type-C -Yes

Headphone Out - Yes

USB Down-stream -Yes (USB3.0 2ea)

The newer 38WN95C has these inputs/outputs

HDMI - Yes, HDMI 2

Display Port - Yes (ver1.4)

USB 3 - (Type A; downstream)

Headphone - Yes

Thunderbolt 3 -Type C, 94W

Will either work with my current MacBook, and the latest ones? I was looking at the spec of the new MacMini, and this is what they have up:

Simultaneously supports up to two displays:

  • One display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt and one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0

Thunderbolt 3 digital video output supports

  • Native DisplayPort output over USB‑C
  • Thunderbolt 2, DVI, and VGA output supported using adapters (sold separately)

HDMI 2.0 display video output

  • Support for one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz
  • DVI output using HDMI to DVI Adapter (sold separately)

Thanks so much - Nigel
