Common Access Card (CAC) pairing in Big Sur

Just completed a fresh install of Big Sur on my early 2015 MacBook Air, and am now trying to use my CAC card to access DoD websites as I did previously. No bueno. I've loaded the DoD certificates, but the CAC hasn't paired, and I don't know how to kick off that process (it happened automatically in Catalina). Open for suggestions or insight. Thanks.

Got it working! I had Thursby PKard installed from awhile back. Had to uninstall it. Then went through and removed all SCM drivers from Identiv. It was a process since there was no uninstall app - had to search them out in all system folders and delete. Emptied trash and rebooted. Works great after that with the native drivers. I am using the SCR3310v2. I tried the 3500 (foldable) but for some reason it wouldn't read the card... I found that SCR to be rather finicky on any device

Fair enough - I won't argue that it's not recognizing the card reader even though it's listed in the hardware profile, but I don't understand "why" it's not recognizing the card reader when the very same machine formerly recognized same said card reader under the previous OS (10.15.7), and a different machine that I own (an iMac) running 10.15.7 w/ supplement and Safari 14.0.1 still recognizes said card reader and CAC card (card type BTW is G+D FIPS 201 SCE 7.0) allowing access to PKI enabled DoD sites. The difference (to me) appears to be the OS. And I'm not trying to be difficult or curt - I'm simply trying to put all of the objective elements of my situation out there to maybe help someone help me narrow down the possibilities and resolve the issue. Thanks

I agree with you! But Big Sur made some changes with Safari even tho it is the same version that was released for 10.15.xx just recently. I would like to recommended if you can wait it out and let DOD update everything and it might work out. Or try another web browser for Mac Firefox or Brave (Brave is a Chromium Based Browser). Myself I use both and not Safari because while browsing I do not like Ads and such Safari lets to many in.
