I cant install my printer after the 11.01 macos Big Sur

Apple decided to make the laser printer Samsung CLP 360 series dysfunctional over a night. No drivers provided for this model that can work with macos Big Sur anymore. In HP they admit that they are unable to find drivers for my product https://support.hp.com/ie-en/drivers/selfservice/samsung-clp-360-color-laser-printer-series/17156859

CLP-360_Series_Mac_PrinterDriver_V5.02.00 were working fine with macos X 10.15 during the installation through Bonjour. But now they are not available anymore. I installed them by myself but the system can't detect them. So the printer is not working.

Any kind of help it will be more than welcome.

I finally resolved the problem and this may help others that have the same issues with incompatible Samsung printers and drivers in Big Sur.

First check for your printer here Samsung - Printers compatible with macOS Catalina 10.15 it seems that these drivers work with Big Sur as well.

For the CLP-360 and CLP-365W compatible are the drivers for SL-C430W. You should download drivers for the macOS 10.15 Samsung Universal Print and Scan DriverV3.92.002 (Sep 16, 2020)

Install the drivers and a new list of printers is now available to system preferences.

While I can't see the name of my printer there, I chose the second one but I checked 3 more and it seems that they work as well.

Apple is not an island. Users do not work in isolation with their apple products. It always takes two to tango. Both companies are responsible to support their users by resolving problems and not creating further ones. It seems that designing new sound effects for every interaction was their higher priority...

Apple is not responsible for third-party printer drivers. That is HP, who now owns the Samsung printer business, and may choose to prioritize newer printers for Big Sur support over older printers, and some printers will never receive newer drivers. Take that up with HP.

Your Samsung CLP-360 is not supported with Apple's AirPrint either.

Hi,

Would it be correct to assume that you have the M2020 model without a suffix (that is, not an M2020W)?

Also, I guess that the printing system has been reset before attempting to add the printer.

There is a universal driver released Feb 11, 2021. Was this the version used here?

Thank you for the update!

Earlier, could you use the M2020 printer and the same computer (model/year?)? If so, under what operating system and with which driver?

In order to rule out a hardware or software problem related to USB, it is sometimes interesting to carry out alternative tests with a network. Unfortunately, the M2020 is USB only. Do you possibly have access to an Ethernet-to-USB (or Wi-Fi-to-USB) print server, or an AirPort Express (or perhaps another router with a USB printer port), that could be used for an experiment? I say experiment, because the printer is probably not tested to be compatible with many such devices and macOS (but a Samsung Xpress SL-M2020 is at least mentioned in the TP-Link list at https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202004/20200430/PrinterCompatibilityList_20200430.pdf).

The idea would be to try a procedure similar to the Add a network printer by its IP address section in Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support. Also, see the How to install compatible driver section in https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06520117 in fine.

I had the same issue after a clean install of Big Sur.

Workaround for (some) printers working with Catalina:

  • install Catalina again
  • install the printer
  • then update to Big Sur.

Kept my samsung driver installed and still works in Big Sur.

Hope it works for you too.

I've tested it but there are not compatible drivers. I'm wandering what kind of architecture the developers had to follow that they needed to destroy something that it was working perfectly.

Probabbly the design of the worst ever icons was of more importance.... what can I say...

You are correct. The vendors must work together and most of them do. Apple had advised HP well in advance of the specific technical requirements of the upcoming Big Sur operating system, so the requirements were well known by HP. If HP declines to support Apple's customers, that is on them. Apple does not, and can not write printer driver software for the thousands of printers out there around the world since they do not own or have access to the proprietary software code of each printer model. It is unfortunate that you have to have this experience.

I have a suggestion which may help you. Check the link below where volunteers have written code for many older models of printers which the vendors no longer support. There may be one that works for you.

Catalina, Big Sur. It seems Big Sur is a continuation of Catalina. Same problem. Except this time the Printer will not be recognized,

i used the "shared on the network" feature and use the printer set up on my wife's MacBook pro (Mojave) to make the printer work in Big Sur!

Apple upgrades are becoming like Microsoft. Every new upgrading breaks more than it fixes. my computer has become super slow and yes the 2 samsung printers i have couldn't be accessed and scanner didn't work till i figure out this shared on the network feature

On a separate note, the Big Sur upgrade had completely bricked my system. I had to wipe out, install new and then manually pull in files from time machine (restore from time machine didn't work)

Hi to all of you Mac geeks in Apple land. Big Sur update did nothing for the Mac Pro. (i movie update) Same problems. Mac Pro will not recognize Epson printer. Sometimes when shutting down, Mail opens and U have to force quit?. When we power up, the trash has (old news ) recovered files in it which are empty files. Photo quits unexpectedly?. Still NO

improvement. Big Sur bugs passed on from Catalina. Come on Apple fix it. Cupertino geeks should be replaced? Mr. Cook

As per phone call to Apple. They recommend update info. from Epson. Apple tells us that should work, fix the issue. No Go!.Then

a msg. from Apple, Mac is working on a Safari fix. Maybe this will fix their other problems including Epson printers.

We will be holding off on the New Mac $6,000.00 Pro Merry Christmas to all..........

I have the same issue and can't use my printer with M1 silicon Macbook Air. It is a shame, printing technology is very old in IT and should not be an issue to have driver compatible at a time where we can execute any technology on any platform with such easy way. Special red lanterne to HP where you can't even open an incident ticket since first step is to give HP serial driver (but it is a Samsung printer bought by HP). HP also don't have such forum/blog like Apple. Apple did help me and tried to fix it over the phone (almost 2 hours).
