I cant install my printer after the 11.01 macos Big Sur

Apple decided to make the laser printer Samsung CLP 360 series dysfunctional over a night. No drivers provided for this model that can work with macos Big Sur anymore. In HP they admit that they are unable to find drivers for my product https://support.hp.com/ie-en/drivers/selfservice/samsung-clp-360-color-laser-printer-series/17156859

CLP-360_Series_Mac_PrinterDriver_V5.02.00 were working fine with macos X 10.15 during the installation through Bonjour. But now they are not available anymore. I installed them by myself but the system can't detect them. So the printer is not working.

Any kind of help it will be more than welcome.

It finally worked on my MacBook Air M1! I had to first install Samsung printer drivers for Catalina from Apple, but it's not enough. One needs to manually copy several folders and files from an older computer where the printer already works (ML-1630W in my case) from /Library/Printers/Samsung/ and /Library/Printers/PPDs/ that are not in the same path as the newer Catalina drivers AND at the same time correct the owners and permissions (I used BatchMod to go faster). For the correct path you can, on the older Mac, uncompress /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/name_of_your_printer.gz, then open the file in a raw text editor and see what are the paths that differ from the newer Catalina driver, and copy these files at the right place on your M1 Mac (I used Airdrop to go faster). You need to first open permissions and propagate them to included items, otherwise files won't copy properly. Then reassign correct owner & permissions on the target Mac. It eventually worked, but what a mess!

Auto update of Big Sur 11.2.2 to 11.2.3 broke the printer driver again. So I deleted my Samsung Xpress SL-M2835 Laser Printer from the list of printers, uninstalled the printer drivers, re-installed the printer drivers, and re-selected the Samsung printer. That fixed the problem. Nor sure all these steps are necessary. I'm sure it will break again soon, so will experiment with simply deleting the printer from the list and then re-selecting it to see if that works.

To get the Samsung printer driver from the support.hp.com website, search for your printer model, then change the default Mac OS to Big Sur 11.0 and you should end up at the download center for the installer and un-installer apps. Good luck!

Very often, the problem is not with the driver itself, but with the driver installer which is no more compatible with Big Sur (outdated binary).

I have several Mac computers (MacBook Pro 13" Retina Late 2013, Mac Pro Late 2013, MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2016) all working for years with an old Samsung ML-1630W laser printer (very stylish and compact device BTW). All these computers have been upgraded over the years with every single new release of macOS with not issue, and they are still printing fine on this "unsupported" printer in Big Sur, period.

The thing is, a brand new Mac (MacBook Air M1) just configured today with a fresh Big Sur install cannot find a driver for this printer. I tried to manually copy PPDs and the Samsung folder in /Library/Printers from another Mac on Big Sur, to no avail. The Printers & Scanners preference pane now see the correct Samsung profile, but displays the error "The software for the printer was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the software from the manufacturer." I think I didn't copy all the mandatory files from the Intel Mac to the Apple Silicon Mac, or that permission problems still occur despite my attention.

Not working for Samsung CLP-310 series. Workaround: share the Samsung printer on another device and send the print job to that device, for example your Intel MacBook.

HP doesn't support the older Samsung printers anymore it seems. They probably took over the Samsung printer division in order to reach total printing world domination. :-(

Thank you so much -- i have the same printer, and copying over the printer files from /Library worked for me. i did get a message about how the settings "needed to be repaired" when i first tried to add the printer in the Printer Settings pane, but after that it seems to be working just fine. I didn't need to repair any permissions when installing them -- i only had to authenticate to put them in the right places.

GREAT NEWS! My Epson printer is (FINALLY) up and running. Thanks to a senior advisor Who went through the system with me w. screen share. It was the os numbers that had to be changed. I had screen shots copy's of all the Failures + when i showed the

info. to the Apple Mac advisor, she spotted the problem right away and changed my os settings. So She renewed my faith in Apple. The printer prints. Now all Apple has to do is fix the bugs in Big Sur that is carried over from Catalina. PS. The Apple employees deserve better compensation NOW. So U,U,U,U apple people out there in Mac land there is hope that your printers will print. They can fix it! Joseph J.

Hi,

Would it be correct to assume that you have the M2020 model without a suffix (that is, not an M2020W)?

Also, I guess that the printing system has been reset before attempting to add the printer.

There is a universal driver released Feb 11, 2021. Was this the version used here?

Thank you for the update!

Earlier, could you use the M2020 printer and the same computer (model/year?)? If so, under what operating system and with which driver?

In order to rule out a hardware or software problem related to USB, it is sometimes interesting to carry out alternative tests with a network. Unfortunately, the M2020 is USB only. Do you possibly have access to an Ethernet-to-USB (or Wi-Fi-to-USB) print server, or an AirPort Express (or perhaps another router with a USB printer port), that could be used for an experiment? I say experiment, because the printer is probably not tested to be compatible with many such devices and macOS (but a Samsung Xpress SL-M2020 is at least mentioned in the TP-Link list at https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202004/20200430/PrinterCompatibilityList_20200430.pdf).

The idea would be to try a procedure similar to the Add a network printer by its IP address section in Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support. Also, see the How to install compatible driver section in https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06520117 in fine.
