I cant install my printer after the 11.01 macos Big Sur

Apple decided to make the laser printer Samsung CLP 360 series dysfunctional over a night. No drivers provided for this model that can work with macos Big Sur anymore. In HP they admit that they are unable to find drivers for my product https://support.hp.com/ie-en/drivers/selfservice/samsung-clp-360-color-laser-printer-series/17156859

CLP-360_Series_Mac_PrinterDriver_V5.02.00 were working fine with macos X 10.15 during the installation through Bonjour. But now they are not available anymore. I installed them by myself but the system can't detect them. So the printer is not working.

Any kind of help it will be more than welcome.

It finally worked on my MacBook Air M1! I had to first install Samsung printer drivers for Catalina from Apple, but it's not enough. One needs to manually copy several folders and files from an older computer where the printer already works (ML-1630W in my case) from /Library/Printers/Samsung/ and /Library/Printers/PPDs/ that are not in the same path as the newer Catalina drivers AND at the same time correct the owners and permissions (I used BatchMod to go faster). For the correct path you can, on the older Mac, uncompress /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/name_of_your_printer.gz, then open the file in a raw text editor and see what are the paths that differ from the newer Catalina driver, and copy these files at the right place on your M1 Mac (I used Airdrop to go faster). You need to first open permissions and propagate them to included items, otherwise files won't copy properly. Then reassign correct owner & permissions on the target Mac. It eventually worked, but what a mess!

I had a similar problem with my Samsung CLP-320, with no drivers available on the Samsung website, and the generic PCL driver in Big Sur only printing in black and white.

This accepted solution didn't help me, but I did finally find another solution using Gutenprint 5.3.3, which doesn't support this printer directly, but choosing the Samsung CLP-620 option works absolutely fine, and I'm back to good quality colour printing again. Hope this helps someone else!

Ok, this is how it worked out for me. I have the Samsung CLP 680DW on Big Sur OS.

I went to preferences/printers&scanners. I clicked the + button to add new printer (mine was already connected via USB) Highlight the printer. There will be a menu that allows you to select your driver (you don’t need to go looking for this on the internet) I simply chose a PS CLP driver since there wasn’t any exact fit for my printer. PS ensured my printer could print in colour. Keep testing until you get a compatible driver. Some only allow you to print in black and white. Again you don’t need to download anything online.

I finally resolved the problem and this may help others that have the same issues with incompatible Samsung printers and drivers in Big Sur.

First check for your printer here Samsung - Printers compatible with macOS Catalina 10.15 it seems that these drivers work with Big Sur as well.

For the CLP-360 and CLP-365W compatible are the drivers for SL-C430W. You should download drivers for the macOS 10.15 Samsung Universal Print and Scan DriverV3.92.002 (Sep 16, 2020)

Install the drivers and a new list of printers is now available to system preferences.

While I can't see the name of my printer there, I chose the second one but I checked 3 more and it seems that they work as well.

You are correct. The vendors must work together and most of them do. Apple had advised HP well in advance of the specific technical requirements of the upcoming Big Sur operating system, so the requirements were well known by HP. If HP declines to support Apple's customers, that is on them. Apple does not, and can not write printer driver software for the thousands of printers out there around the world since they do not own or have access to the proprietary software code of each printer model. It is unfortunate that you have to have this experience.

I have a suggestion which may help you. Check the link below where volunteers have written code for many older models of printers which the vendors no longer support. There may be one that works for you.

i used the "shared on the network" feature and use the printer set up on my wife's MacBook pro (Mojave) to make the printer work in Big Sur!

Apple upgrades are becoming like Microsoft. Every new upgrading breaks more than it fixes. my computer has become super slow and yes the 2 samsung printers i have couldn't be accessed and scanner didn't work till i figure out this shared on the network feature

On a separate note, the Big Sur upgrade had completely bricked my system. I had to wipe out, install new and then manually pull in files from time machine (restore from time machine didn't work)

No, Apple was not able to help me. I have been today following the @-ixen- driver link for CSP 360 and it works with 2 error screen for each print (just need to clic on ok button twice). Also not all optional are available, interface is less customizable compare to before. It is an "just ok" workaround. Shame on HP where you can't even log a ticket.

After last update to Big Sur 11.3 my samsung printer stopped working again and filter error popped up. Even with latest samsung universal printer driver containing my printer driver.

My workaround was selecting another driver from the list not matching my model, and after a few printer started working again. Crazy I know, but I hope it works for some of you out there.

Hello,

The latest HP software for the ML-2165W appears to be for macOS 10.13. There is a Samsung Universal Print Driver V3.93.01 for an SL-M2020 (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SS/Print_Common_SW/Samsung_Mac_Driver_V3.93.01.dmg) that possibly could be worth testing with a network connection (as a pure experiment). However, there is a certain risk involved with any experiment. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out. A hardware problem is unlikely, but it is impossible to guarantee anything. Data may be lost. You may have to erase and reinstall everything on the computer. So, do not proceed unless you know what you are doing. In any case, make absolutely sure that you have at least three backup copies of important files.
