Epson print driver for Big Sur?

I just upgraded to Big Sur. My Epson printer Stylus Photo 1400 apparently doesn't have a compatible driver. Are they any plans to work with EPSON to have new drivers? The printer works great and I don't want to ditch it because of the new MacOS.

Hello,

The European support site has information about the Epson Software updater and Uninstall Center only, when choosing macOS 11 (Big Sur) as the operating system:

https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=10816&language=en&os=38#drivers_and_manuals

The Epson Singapore support page on the other hand has a Big Sur driver:

https://www.epson.com.sg/c/Epson-AcuLaser-C1700/s/SPT_C11CB71061?review-filter=Mac+OS+X+11.x

Apparently, this driver, Ver.1.12 (03-2014) is used for earlier operating system versions as well.

Going back to the European site, with macOS 10.15 (Catalina) chosen as the operating system, there is a 1.14 (04-Jan-2021) driver:

https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=10816&language=en&os=36#drivers_and_manuals

So, you may have to check what the operating system or the Epson Software updater offers to begin with (after having reset the printing system, and re-added the printer). Otherwise, you may want to try one or more driver downloads. You should look upon this as an experiment. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out. You may have to erase and reinstall everything on the computer. Data can be lost. So, do not proceed unless you know what you are doing. Also, make sure that you have multiple backup copies of important files before doing anything at all.

Hi,

Do you mean HP LaserJet Pro 200 color?

If so, there are two models (HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276n and HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276nw) mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as printers supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. Is your printer one of these (please note the exact model, including suffix)? An AirPrint printer can be used without drivers (when connected to a network). Software from the printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality. In the case of the models above, there is a reference to HP Easy Start on the HP support pages.

There are also M251 and M275 models.

Hi jhonatan288,

If you need it, there is in fact a (European) download for the L220 with Big Sur drivers here:

https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=15796&language=en&os=38#drivers_and_manuals

See also https://www.epson.eu/viewcon/corporatesite/kb/index/1018:

"Compatibility details for Epson L220

Your product is macOS Big Sur compatible. The product driver is available via the Epson support website.

Printer Driver: Please use v10.85 or later.

Epson Scan Driver: Please use v6.4.94.0 or later.

Apple Image Capture Application (ICA): Yes. Click here for support on using Image Capture with your scanner."

Hello michaelfromwest parley,

The link in my reply to jhonatan288 is the same as the one mentioned by nzwarv above. If you go to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252049069, you will find a discussion about an L220 initiated by nzwarv. In the same discussion, there was information by Philip Hing about the driver used for an Epson Photo Stylus RX-585 instead.

An RX-585 is probably not too different from the RX-560. Have you tried to download the aforementioned driver for the L220 directly from the Epson support page?

BTW, always make sure that you are using an official web page from the printer manufacturer.

Hello Michael,

You would probably have to ask that question directly to filippo26 here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252055101?answerId=253962090022#253962090022

Anyway, I think that this is the link of interest (in the reply by luigi7119 on the first page at problema *** la stampante Epson WF-2510 - Apple Community):

https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=11996&language=it&os=38#drivers_and_manuals

(there is a version 10.85 driver).

Hello Michael,

Thanks for the report. I was under the impression that the v10.85 driver was introduced in connection with Big Sur.

The download button for the printer driver 10.85 on the Italian WF-2510WF support page leads to https://download.epson-europe.com/pub/download/6371/epson637183eu.dmg . Was this the file that you tried? I assume that you opened the .dmg file, and then tried to carry out an installation.

BTW, the UK support page for the WF-2510WF at https://www.epson.co.uk/support?productID=11996&os=38#drivers_and_manualsappears appears to have exactly the same download.

If nothing else works, you could perhaps try to reset the printing system and then again try to add a printer.
