I am unable to get mail search function to work after Big Sur install. After reading some other previous email search content, I closed mail completely, opened with shift+Mail, closed and rebooted and same problem occurring.

Removing (and adding) the search box in customize view has helped! Strange thing!
I turned off VileFault - now it works!!!
The remove-add search in customize toolbar did the trick. I don't understand why Apple hasn't fixed it by now. Maybe there are just too many bugs in the so-called upgrade of the OS.

Not one of these fixes really helped. I upgraded to Monterey and problem fixed. I'm glad I wasn't on Big Sur for long. This problem actually effected my ability to work
Delete the mail account and re-install it. It worked perfectly for me!!!

When I search All Sent for Name@gmail.com, the search finds nothing.
When I search All Sent for Name, the search succeeds.
