Mac Pro newest, promise technology raid attached two monitors. System runs fine, but at shut down, system appears to take a long time to shut down, kinda hangs and eventually shuts down briefly. It then reboots by itself and reports a crash, a kernel panic type crash.
This doesn’t happen at every shutdown, I haven’t yet been able to isolate whether having had a particular application running at shutdown time yet is associated.

Still working to isolate this. One promise array is native thunderbolt 3, the other is 2, but with a 3-2 adapter. With either one connected without the other, there is no panic at shut down time. However, it will happen with both arrays attached. Previously with Catalina, no issue. Not 100% yet on this, but getting there. Promise Utility and firmware all up to date.
I'm on v. 11.3.1and this looong shutdown is still happening. Don't know why only a few of us are having this problem.
I have a few SSD external drives and Time Machine. Having to park them still takes about a minute...
This was not a problem when I was on Catalina.
Hoping for a fix or workaround. So frustrating!

never mind, still fails. I give up for now.
Now appears to be related to hanging while trying to “eject” external drives at shutdown time.. either thunderbolt connected or nas. Closing in on it....
A work around is before shutting down eject your external drives which will take at least a couple minutes with unmount process eating cpu. . Once they eject, shutdown, and it won’t panic.

Btw only the NAS Synology is being used as Time Machine.
Same problem here as well, promise t3 attached sata drives causes hang and cpu panic on shutdown.
Nevermind, it crashes as well if the monitor is not attached.

AS above it takes about a minute to shutdown.
A restart still takes the minute to shutdown then restarts OK.
I eject all the drives and the problem persists.
I have also reset the PRAM.
THat was about my new strategy to follow....glad it works for someone at least.
So big question remains: is Apple aware at all of the issue? lol
I got the same. It panics at shutdown. It’s mediocre that apple isn’t capable to fix this even after upgrading to 11.2!!!!!
try re-initializing your time machine drive (apfs case sensitive) and starting your backups over. That solved it for me.
Do you mean erase time machine and set it as AFPS Case Sensitive?
