Using Bluebeam Revu for Mac on Big Sur

Hi - Until Big Sur, I was able to run the (no longer supported) Mac version of Bluebeam Revu on my Mac (Catalina). Now it just crashes and Bluebeam told me it would no longer work. Bluebeam stopped supporting Revu for Mac earlier this year.

Is there any chance that Apple would release an update to Big Sur that would allow this software to run again?

Otherwise I'll be looking into Parallels or Bootcamp to try to run the Windows version of Revu.

Many thanks.

Hi everyone - I just downloaded v. 1.9 from the following link:

It still runs! Depending on your needs, this may do the trick. It remembered my license info from when I bought it, and I was able to import my saved toolboxes. Thanks again to cometbjm for this suggestion!

Unfortunately, more people chiming in will not do anything here: Apple does not update their OS to make it compatible with a third party app. It is the other way around. The developer of your app need to issue an update or upgrade - contact them and ask there.

And, just so you know, we are all other users here - you are not addressing Apple.

Thanks - speaking for myself, I know all of that, and Revu for Mac is at "end of life" - they will no longer update it (I confirmed that before ever posting here, as I said in the first post) so I'm hoping by some fluke, a future Big Sur update will magically let it work again. Stranger things have happened (especially in 2020!) Thanks! 😀

Should you upgrade? I guess it depends on whether it's more important to you to have the latest Mac OS, or to run Revu. (Just pointing this out, not saying either way). I'm always eager to run Mac OS updates and enjoy new functionality, faster speeds, etc. but this last one knocked the wind out of me because I'm so unhappy about the Revu situation. I still have the previous OS on my Macbook and am using that until I can finish setting up a solution (in process). I agree with engjellb below, I know there is a small but loyal Revu for Mac base and was really hoping they'd keep supporting and updating it.

This is a known issue. I had reported it to Bluebeam Support and this is what they told me. I did what they suggested and it worked - better - but wasn't really functional for me. It runs better in Bootcamp for me. This is copied from my Support email:

As it happens, we are familiar with the strange behavior you described. This appears to be a consequence of how Parallels works (or doesn't work) with our Skia-based renderers.

Officially, this issue falls into the scope of Parallels-related issues that Bluebeam does not support, but through trial-and-error, we've identified that this issue does not impact our Legacy (GDI) rendering engine. Switching to this renderer has helped other Parallels users.

Can you try changing the rendering engine over to GDI, and let me know if that helps? Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Open Revu.
  2. In the menu bar, select Revu → Preferences.
  3. On the left, select Advanced, and up top, select 2D Rendering.
  4. Change the value of the dropdown menu next to Rendering Engine to "Legacy (GDI)".
  5. Click OK. Try reproducing the flipping issue.

And I thought I'd provide this link:

in case there is info here to help the readers of this thread.

FYI, I downloaded a trial version of Revu Extreme (Windows) on my new Windows computer (sigh) and I have to say it works REALLY well, has more cool features than the Mac version. I encourage any of you who have a Windows computer to give it a try (if you can afford to buy it when the 30 day trial is up). I fought this as long as I could (and will still keep v 1.9 on my Mac for touchups) but I think I'm going to like the Windows version.
