WiFi Speeds (iPhone 12 Pro Max)

Anybody else having slow or inconsistent WiFi speeds on iPhone 12 Pro Max? I know it’s not my WiFi because all my other devices work as usual including my iPhone X which is still have/upgraded from.

I was having the same issue. Which Speedtest app are you guys using? I’ve always used Speedtest.net app by ookla. My isp speeds its 200mbp and I was only getting 25mbps sitting next to the router. What I did was tried doing a Google search and tested the speed through the web browser and instantly got a little over 200mbps then I uninstalled and reinstalled Speedtest.net app and speeds are now normal. The bug might be with the Speedtest.net app

My issue may be a little different. The wifi will stop working on mine. All will be good, then speed will throttle down and stop working(still connected with great wifi signal next to router). Rest of devices in house are fine. I’ve also experienced this issue at work numerous times, which is a different ISP and hardware compared to home.

I live over 4hrs from the closest Apple store, so Apple support just keeps sending me a new replacement homing it’ll magically cure the issue. I’m on my 3rd replacement and issue just happened today (1day ownership of this new replacement). Called Apple and they want to send me another replacement. Tried everything from turning off wifi assist, resetting network settings, resting entirely and keeping backup off to test, even had ISP change all equipment at home, nothing resolved the issue. Out of 5 Apple devices at home, I’m the only one with this issue...

my 12 pro max often appeared to be slow using wi-do compared with my wife’s 6S plus.

Called apple and rep went through a relatively lengthy procedure - took over remotely, back up, system reset, checked speeds etc and concluded wi-fi should be faster. Said that Best Buy had better analytical capability vs his over the phone methods and he set up an appointment.

Went to Best Buy Geeks, yesterday, and after 10 minutes of diagnostic - check all aspects of phone, they concluded that the phone was in perfect working order. Even searched etc on Safari and all worked within an acceptable response time.

So, we shall see whether it was just a too high level of expectations or it becomes slow again.

This morning just zipping along.

An enigma!

I am facing the same issue since I got my new phone. I am having an iphone 12 pro. And the wifi speed on the device is very slow. All other devices work absolutely fine on the same wifi network. Have been facing this issue since 5 to 6 months now and its getting irritating. The phone works fine on mobile network the issue is only with wifi network. Hope this is fixed with some updates soon.

As silly as it sounds, try running another test, but this time set your phone directly on top of or next to the Orbi.

Many don't realize that the high speeds 5 GHz Wi-Fi offers begins to drop off as soon as you are more than two to three feet away from the router (seriously.)

At distance, 250-400 Mbps down is wonderful for a 5 GHz connection.

There may also be interference or something causing your phone to drop back to the 2.4 GHz frequency.

Unfortunately, there is no way to determine which frequency your device is connected to from the phone; I have no idea if the Orbi provides that information or not.

There's not a defect, the 12 Pro Max is the fastest iOS device I've used.

You are not going to see 700 Mbps out of a WiFi signal unless you have a WiFi 6 router and conditions are perfect, and even then it depends on the wireless access point and router. For example, the Apple Time Capsule 802.11ac devices won't pass traffic at much over 650 Mbps even when all connections are wired because the processor can't pass traffic faster.

The speed you posted would be normal for an iOS device connected via 5 GHz 802.11ac signal six feet or more from your wireless access point.

You can often get faster speeds from a computer because of their higher processing power and better antenna placement.

You e been writing a lot about how we don’t know how to use our phones and how it’s not meant to be fast. It’s irritating. All I know is that my husband’s older iPhone gets better speeds than I do. And that in many places I am better off turning off my WiFi off and going cellular because the WiFi is too slow and times out. I would not buy this phone again if I had a choice.

I did have an issue with mine, wifi would just randomly stop working but still be 100% connected to the wifi modem. Didn’t matter if I was on 2.4 or 5ghz. Most of the time come morning it was guaranteed not be working, I would need to cycle the wifi button on phone on/off multiple times. Sometimes I could get it working but often I would cave and just use my cell phone internet.

I tried every setting/procedure from Apple tech support possible with no luck on my 12 pro max.

In roughly 5 months, I went through 4 iPhone’s and 5 wifi modems before I managed to get the issue resolved. (Fingers crossed it stays resolved).

My issue sent me on a wild path because it would happen at home, work and at some random places. All these different places did not share the same ISP but did use the same brand of wifi modem.

When my home ISP technician came to my house to try and resolve the issue a 4th time, they decided to install a different brand wifi modem. Since that moment, the wifi issue I’ve had documented in this group has been 100% resolved.

At work I had experienced the same issue on a different ISP but the same concerned modem brand, I solved the issue by using a new router from bestbuy and not pairing to the ISP provided modem.

The modem brand that forced an issue was Hitron, my home wifi ISP changed to a Arris brand which solved the issue. For work I bought a router from Netgear abs resolved that issue instead of connecting with the Hitron modem.

My old iPad get higher download speed than my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I use the same test app on both (UniFi’s WiFiMan), same distance, same signal strength, same channel, same protocol (802.11ac) and same test server. Tried to reset Network settings on iPhone, but still same behavior. It’s not slow, around 180 Mbps, but the iPad is getting 380 Mbps.
