WiFi Speeds (iPhone 12 Pro Max)
Anybody else having slow or inconsistent WiFi speeds on iPhone 12 Pro Max? I know it’s not my WiFi because all my other devices work as usual including my iPhone X which is still have/upgraded from.

I finally solved the ridiculously slow wifi speed (just got my iphone 12 pro max today).
Turns out my VPN was kicking in while trying to configure/test everything else out.
Bottomline: I had to use cellular data to download the VPN (because it was only partially downloaded), then once it was downloaded, i disabled it. Then.... voila... wifi speed was back to "crazy fast"
Just a thought.... look at your VPN (to if you can disable it)
worked for me.
Just tried the Private address WiFi setting to OFF, certainly improved the speeds a bit but still down on 5 year old laptop.
Figures
2015 MacBook Pro 5ms Ping 51.2Mbits down 21.3Mbits up
2020 iphone Pro Max 7ms Ping 37.1Mbits down 19.9Mbits up.

I recently found a way to see if our speeds on all of our iPhone 12 devices are true. I saw that using Speedtest.net app, you have to test lots of different servers to see your average speed and maximum speeds. Like for example one server I selected specifically receives 600-800mbps on my iPhone 12 mini consistently. However most servers on Speedtest.net app, I only get 200-400mbps speeds at maximum no matter time and day. There also could be bandwidth/congestion issues affecting our devices ability to achieve maximum speeds on top of these modem firmware issues. It is definitely something to evaluate.
Correct, but if it was inherent to the phone, I couldn’t get that result.
If it is iOS, it’s something not common to Apple, Cisco, Netgear or Ubiquiti routers, or most of those provided by Xfinity for cable modem service as I get similar results on all of them.
Two things to check are to make sure no VPN is enabled and that Wi-Fi Assist is off.
What router are you using to provide Wi-Fi? Since you are using Xfinity is it one of their normal cable modem/Wi-Fi routers?
my 12 pro max often appeared to be slow using wi-do compared with my wife’s 6S plus.
Called apple and rep went through a relatively lengthy procedure - took over remotely, back up, system reset, checked speeds etc and concluded wi-fi should be faster. Said that Best Buy had better analytical capability vs his over the phone methods and he set up an appointment.
Went to Best Buy Geeks, yesterday, and after 10 minutes of diagnostic - check all aspects of phone, they concluded that the phone was in perfect working order. Even searched etc on Safari and all worked within an acceptable response time.
So, we shall see whether it was just a too high level of expectations or it becomes slow again.
This morning just zipping along.
An enigma!
Resetting the network settings, basically doubled the WiFi speed on my 12 Pro Max, measured with SpeedTest.
Fluctuations are also gone.
I observed the problem while switching from my old Note 9 to the iPhone, and using it for downloading Netflix stuff.
OK, let me reword: There is no risk turning off private address on your phone when connecting to your own router. It’s to protect your identity using “foreign” routers.
I Had the issue,
The only thing that helped was Turning on Configure Proxy Automatic.
Wifi /press on Your wifi network / Configure Proxy / Auto..
One thing that helped me was to Set my iphone as Prioritized on my router settings. Its been perfect since then.
With update 14.4.1 WiFi speeds are much improved for my iphone 12 pro.
I also turned off the new Google Fi feature for VPN and my speeds nearly doubled. 240mbps download before, 453mbps after.
I just got my new 12 Pro Max set up the other day. Noticed immediately that it has very slow Wifi performance while all my other devices (13" MBP 2020, MBA 2020) are exponentially faster. I discovered that my 2019 iPad Pro is also very slow. I have an older iPhone 7 Plus that has not been updated to iOS 14.2 while my 12 Pro Max and iPad have been updated. The 7 Plus has fast, expected speeds on wifi. It seems it may be related to iOS 14.2 .

Just go to your connected wifi settings and turn off the Private
address. That private address is just to keep your location more secure
but it also gives you the less wifi speed than you supposed to get.
Not true. I have Private Address on and I get the full speed I am supposed to get.
I just finished up some testing with Apple support, definitely appears to be a software issue, after running some diagnostics and real time comparisons between my 12 Pro Max and iPhone X is was obvious there is a disparity. Everything points towards a firmware/software update as a fix, I hope they can use the diagnostics they pulled from my device to that end.
Running into the same problem. Was on the phone with them and the person said they were unaware of any issues. Also 3 other people with the same phone are experiencing the same issues. No other devices in my household are having this problem including and 11 pro, samsung note 10, computers, smart tvs, ect... I can't find anything online other that Clear Cache or removing apps running in background, things like that. I'm pretty sure I didn't by this phone to worry about having to clear my cache or disconnect and reconnect to wifi over and over.
Resolving was to check setting.
Screen Share: Checked Update
Was told to reset Network Settings
General>Reset>Network Settings
Next I was told if this didn't work I needed to reset my phone to factory.
I don't feel this was an issue when I first got the phone it seems like it started after 14.2.1 update
Pretty frustrating.
