IPhone 12 Pro Max Lens flare

Love the cameras. But horrible lens flares.

And it seems it’s defective:

One the right, above the window. Green flares from tube lights to the left.

Will try out during the day and post

I can't remember if I showed these two photos here in this thread or in another one on this topic.

Here's a picture I took with flare. I could easily see the flare on my iPhone 12 Pro Max screen before I took the photo, which you could have seen if you were holding my phone as well:

Is my phone defective? No, of course not.

Without moving my position at all, I moved the angle of the camera relative to the scene and took this photo seconds later. Notice anything different? The flares are gone.

You contact Apple support, post on discussions.Apple.com and hopefully if enough people complain Apple will devise a fix, or at least improve the next generation.

You specifically do not post here, unless you have a technical issue other users can give you a solution for.

You can contact Apple Support here:

You may provide feedback here:

If you have a solution for this issue, you may want to contact Huawei, because they haven't been able to solve it despite their collaboration with Leica.

LG and Samsung would also likely pay you seven figures or more for a fix.

No one on this forum can fix anything for you. You can continue to complain over and over but that get's you nothing. If you're not happy with your phone, take it to Apple for evaluation. What do you honestly think we users can do for you other than to try to give you suggestion on ways to minimize naturally occurring photographic artifacts.

The cameras on the phones are not flawed. Even if they were, incessantly complaining to other users here is pointless.

You say you came to see what Apple is going to do about your complaints. NO ONE HERE WORKS FOR APPLE. NO ONE HERE CAN SPEAK FOR APPLE. APPLE DOESN'T PARTICIPATE IN THIS FORUM.

Take your complaints to Apple.

It is curious that Apple has an open folder for me to send photos and videos with the problem because they are studying it and they have told me that it is a serious problem and some of you here are defending it.

Of course processing will enhance the dots as they are seen as part of the source photo.

There are more than enough posts here and on the Internet showing the same issue with past iPhones as well as every other phone camera, so I won't argue it with you further.

Let us all know what Apple Support says, as ultimately they are the final arbiter.

Of course it is. Aside from some differences in the cameras on iPhone 12 compared to iPhone 11, they are almost the same. People moaned and whined over iPhone 11 claiming it was defective, horrible, had to be fixed, etc., just as this thread is about. Only they aren't defective, Apple isn't going to fix anything and people need to learn about photography.

I called ahead to APPLE support. spent 90 minutes calling forwarded three times, had to explain three times, the final conclusion the final staff told me that exchanges are unacceptable, only returns are accepted.

he told me that this product was not a defect of APPLE, so if I wanted to replace the product, there is only one way is I have to use my AppleCare program with paying its fee of $ 120 then exchange it once, but no further returns or exchanges are possible. If i want to exchange it, return it then buy new one. this is what the guy told me.

Last night, i shoot some new ones as in;

Completely agree. Started using my new Max pro this week with some awful results. Been on twice to support without any answers. Sadly its not good enough. If you look at the photos you can see that I failed to take a number of shots without a mark or flare appear. The ones in the mist are actually at night with only a quarter moon, so not really that bright. Are apple saying that you can only use this camera during daylight because that is how it seems. Any feedback from anyone who has resolved this would be greatly appreciated.

Your logic is open ended. What are you trying to say. Can’t follow. The strange effects seen randomly on a wide variety of platforms is due to inherent flaws on the Light Sensing Diode at the heart of all these cameras. A small, undetectable divination in the silicon doping of the wafer. Norton’ to be done . Buy a Canon, problem solved.

Sorry, but I find it hard to imagine ANY professional photographer would not understand flares and how to work with them. If some are indeed "professional" and they are here complaining about a camera phone, I have to question their pro skills.

If you find that condescending, I'm sorry, but it's honestly laughable a true pro wouldn't understand this.

Nov 29, 2020 7:35 PM in response to lobsterghost1

No professional complains about the limitations of their gear, they learn to work around them.

That doesn't mean they're happy about it, of course - but it's like the old gem:

Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

Doctor: "Don't do that."

More to the point, as I have been saying if you really can't live with the issue, return it for full refund and get something else that better suits your needs, if you can find one.

But to say "My (fill in the blank) doesn't do this!" is just silly, as there is ample photographic proof all over the Internet that your (fill in the blank) in fact does, even if you didn't experience it.
