Driver HP LaserJet 1020 MacOS Big Sur

Yesterday I installed Big Sur on My MacBook Pro 2017. At work is an old HP Laserjet 1020 printer. I installed the printer driver package from the Apple website on Catalina to work. You won't be able to install it on this version. Not support.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

Here are some screenshots to help clear up the confusion.

Setup: MacOS BigSur, HP 1020 printer driver installed from previous OS.

Delete the HP 1020 driver from your Machine.
Open preferences/printer.
If the Printer is not connected, clicking the "+" symbol in the window on the left of the Printers & Scanners preferences pane will open the "add printer" dialogue, but the "search bar" will not provide any results when "HP 1020" is entered into the search bar. This is expected behaviour.
Plug HP 1020 printer into a USB port on your Mac.
Turn printer off. Turn printer on.
Open preferences/printer.
Click the "+" symbol in the window on the left of the Printers & Scanners preferences pane
The "add printer" window will open. The printer HP 1020 will be shown
Click on HP 1020.
Under "Use:" click on "choose a driver"..
Click on Select Software
Enter "HP 1020" into the search bar. No results will be shown. This is expected behaviour. HP 1020 is no longer a supported printer.
Clear search bar. Enter "HP 1022"
Select HP LaserJet 1022,1.6.1 .. Click "OK"
Click "Add"
Printer HP LaserJet 1020 will now be set up ready to print. The "kind" will be set to HP LaserJet 1022, 1.6.1

This is the correct procedure but it doesn't work because HP no longer supports the Laserjet 1020.

Perhaps the drivers are saved when updating to Big Sur. With a clean installation, you get a clean system and the HP LaserJet 1022 printer drivers are not listed.

Maybe. But in fact, the problem has been resolved. You need to delete the old printer in the settings and add a new one, just select the driver for HP LaserJet1022 and the printer prints.

Simply go to the option to add printer and look for the list of printers that the new version of iOS (Big Sur) supports and select HP Laser Jet 1022, 1.6.1. With that it should work. Cheers

Check their list of Printers but Id guess they will have it!

Add a new printer in settings while the printer is connected to the mac. Then choose a driver for laserjet 1022 from the list. It worked for me

Glad it worked for you - but not for me - the 1022 doesn't appear in the list. Maybe this is because I'm trying to solve this problem in Europe and not the States? Frustrating to say the least.
