Snooze Calendar Notifications in Big Sur

How do you snooze calendar notifications more than the default 5 min?

In Catalina, you could long-press the Snooze button and get a choice as to how long the notification was snoozed. I tried it in Big Sur and I don't get the list.

No, the manual just says that if the notification has the Options button, click Options then click Snooze. There is no option to long-press Snooze to get different snooze durations. They used to have long-pressing Snooze to get different durations in the Calendar documentation for Big Sur, but they changed the documentation shortly after 11.1 was released. They have removed references to long-pressing which tells you that it isn't a bug; they actually removed the ability to get different snooze durations. Do NOT expect to see it come back with the next release. If you want to see that ability to come back, file Feedback with Apple as they do not check this forum. Hello! I tested it again and it does work for me on the MacBook Air, OS Big Sur 11.2. (1) When the notification pops up on my desktop, I double click on it (anyplace, but not on the "snooze" dialog space!) It automatically opens the calendar and the specific event. (2) In the event box, I click the arrows to the right of the "Alert" that corresponds to the notification; (3) it opens the dialog option list giving me the same choices that I had before in Catalina. So, it requires one more click than before to put the event on "snooze" mode, and you also need to get rid of the notification yourself by clicking the X on the left hand side, or the arrow on the right hand side of the notification box, which before wasn't the case because once you made a snooze choice the notification would disappear from the desktop. The first time I posted this alternative, I referred to "default" alert and "second" alert -- but testing the different configurations this time, I verified that the same procedure can be used for whatever number of alerts you have set, one not interfering with the other. So, in reality the procedure is simpler than I first described it. (Keep in mind that I figured this out by trial and error and have not tested in on an Iphone or other devices as I use the snooze function only in my computer.)

The nearest solution I can find is BusyCal from BusyMac. It's very similar to MacOS Calendar (with a few additional features that I don't have a use for), but it does have variable-length snooze. Two drawbacks though: firstly, it's pretty expensive to recover this one feature; and secondly, the snooze function is not as comprehensive as Calendar used to have. If you want to do something like "snooze to two days before this appointment" (which is something I frequently want to do), you have to do the arithmetic yourself, while Calendar used to cope with that fine.

I have bought an App by the name of Fantastical. The cost for a year is just under $40.00. It does what Apple Calendar Notifications should do, and did do in Catalina, but doesn't in Big Sur.

Fantastical has snooze options a plenty, more than we had in the Apple native calendar in Catalina. It looks pretty much like the native calendar You will need to connect it to Icloud. Fantastical gives you instructions how to do that. And you need to change the native calendar notifications in system preferences/notifications to "none".

Of course I continue to hope to see the Apple engineers pay attention to this stupid mistake. If I don't don't get too hooked on Fantastical I will revert to the native calendar if Apple wakes up. $40.00 for a year to get rid of an annoying headache seems cheap to me. My doctor charges more than that to treat a headache.

This is not the only "pain" Big Sur has visited on me..It also is not playing nice with the print option in Chrome on one of my printers.

No wonder so many smart and tech savvy folks do not update when Apple tells you to do so.!!!!!!!

I know it is not the best answer and I completely agree that Apple screwed up with this change but in the interim, until they fix this, take a look at Calendar 366 II. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/calendar-366-ii/id1265895169?mt=12.

It is only $15 from the Mac App Store. One time purchase, no subscription. I really like it and gives you back the ability to snooze the calendar notifications. You'll want to turn off the native calendar notifications so you don't get duplicate notices but otherwise a great app. Way better than Fantastical and NO subscription. Fantastical has gotten too big for its britches...leaving room for others to come in and fill the void.

I figured out that when you receive the first alert, if you click on it, it will open the specific event in calendar. There, you will see a second alert label just under the "default" one -- click on the second alert, and you will be able to see the same snooze options we had before in Catalina. It's a ridiculous added step, but it looks like the feature was preserved and hidden (or just added, I don't know, I got a Big Sur update today.)

I've just discovered that you can get all the options that were there on screen before if you go to the calendar app and edit the entry in the calendar. Once in edit mode you can set when you next want to see the alert very much like what you used to be able to see by holding down the snooze button on screen.

That is not a feature that's available. However, you can always submit feedback to Apple to let them know it's something you'd like to see:

Hi lenir17,

Sorry, but you seem to be confusing alerts with snooze. Following everything you described on an identical set up I can indeed 'change' the alert time, but there is no multiple snooze option. The list of times you see has always been there and it allows you to set or change when the alert will go off, but it is not a snooze option. Yes, it's kinda possible to use this by changing what was a '2 hour before' alert to a '1 hour before' alert, so that's the equivalent of snoozing for 1 hour, but it get's really clunky when a '1 week before' alert pops up and I want to be reminded the following day. In Catalina I could snooze for 1 day. In Big Sur I have to create a customized '6 days before' alert. Snooze with multiple options (from minutes, all the way up to 1 week) was brilliant and simple. Having to modify an alert each time one goes off is not a feasible work around, unless you rarely get alerts. Please accept my apologies if I am wrong, but I don't see multiple 'snooze' options anywhere in Big Sur.
