Recovery Key (12 Character Limit) for First Gen iPad

Hi,

Trying to dust off an old first gen iPad as a reader. When attempting to authenticate to iCloud, entering Apple ID and Password works, but then I am challenged to enter a recovery key, which I don't have from 10 years ago.

I've gone through the two-factor to regenerate a recovery key, but the challenge is that on the first gen iPad, there is a format of RK-XXXX-YYYY-ZZZZ, or in other words, there is a 12 character limit to the recovery key in this model.

Tried this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8351903) and this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8469226). On the second thread, the recovery key I can generate from an iPhone is 6 digits long, so I'd have to have a 6 character apple id...which isn't allowed anymore, so I'm still stuck trying to generate a recovery key that fits. Any help in generating the right key?

Thanks!

iPad 3G
