It appears there's no longer a delete shortcut key in the Messages app for Big Sur.
Is there a way to set one up?
There's also no 'X' at the end of selected message to delete.
The functionality now is to right click on the message and select delete.
Perfect, I added it and used the exact name in the Messages app.
1) Add the shortcut via the Keyboard/Shortcuts tab
2) Select App Shortcut
3) Use the drop down to find the Messages app
4) Click on the + option while selecting on All Applications
5) Type in the exact name of the menu you wish to setup up a shortcut for (e.g., Delete Conversation...)
6) Pick the shortcut keys and done
7) Check the Messages app and now there is a shortcut key for deleting a converstion
I think I will for 2 billion dollar, are you ready for it
Why would you pay somebody two billion dollars for something you can do yourself
Excuse me, I meant messenger conversations, not just one single little message within the conversation.
This post has nothing to do with Messenger - it's about the Message app in Big Sur. Maybe open a different thread, because that is not what this one is about...
I also get a TON of text messages that need to be deleted daily and now it takes 4x longer to do that. Thanks for wasting my day, Apple!
Why do they monkey with things that are convenient? Just clicking and deleting the message was so much easier. It's just change for change sake.
Nor can you use Tab to move between button
You can if you turn it on in Keyboard System Preferences, Shortcuts tab.
Use the space bar for the item that is highlighted
Nevermind about how to get it working (i.e. deleting on 1 device and carrying over to other devices). I figured it out on my phone. Thanks!

Yes, Apple... what was your Big Sur team thinking? Bring back the "X" or a keystroke for deleting msgs! Pull downs for deleting are simply archaic and time eaters.
yeah, they should make a one-click delete button and shortcut-key, with an undo option, if you click by mistake. Rather than a confirm dialog.

What and where is the category list?
The “category list” is the list of shortcut types in the Shortcuts tab of the Keyboard System Preferences.
