Big Sur removed epson printer and now will not add it back

Thank you Fj2000, I had the same issue with my Epson printer(L360) and it was removed from System Preferences after upgrade to Big Sur. I followed your suggestion and installed the Epson drivers for MacOS 11.x and now the printer is detected successfully and working.

I had problem with losing Epson ep-803a printer driver after upgrade/ fresh install BigSur. It is an old version printer but work well in previous OS X operating system. Problem solved for me after searching many epson website. And the one that work is epson Japan https://www.epson.jp

Use google translate or Chrome browser to translate the whole site.

Type in search for your model epson printer and follow the steps and you will get done.

Thanks for this tip - I have a Stylus Photo RX640 which suddenly stopped working after I installed Big Suck and Gutenprint fixed it for me. You're a star!

UPDATE: So, as I said, reinstalling the driver allowed me to add back my printer. However, I'm still not able to print. I can send a print job to the printer, but if I open the print queue it just says "Waiting for printer to become available" -- which it never does. I guess I'll be stuck waiting for Epson to release new drivers compatible with Big Sur. *sigh*

I just downloaded latest driver (even though driver is not updated to Big Sur) and went to my pdf, pressed the print shortcut (Command + P) and printed the document!

Now we know that the printer as such works, and that the nozzles appear to be OK. It could still be a problem inside the printer to the USB port, though.

Do you have access to a Windows XP to Windows 10 PC? If so, you could carry out a quick comparative test (if necessary, drivers can be found via the Epson support page above). Alternatively, a Mac OS X / OS X / macOS 10.3 to 10.15 Mac?

I have a Epson stylus CX4800 and it works perfectly fine just when it’s not plugged in to power and the computer it doesn’t show it on the system preferences panel, so probably a big sur issue you should just download the drivers from Epson

The Epson XP-970 is mentioned in the article About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that drivers should not be needed when a network connection is used (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). How is your printer connected? Have you been using AirPrint?

Drivers/software from the printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality.

Different regions may offer somewhat different downloads.

i had the same problem, my printer is epson L220. i've downloaded the drivers needed but i still can't add the printer on system preference. i guess we just have to wait until there is another update. have you tried contacting epson support through e-mail?
