I solved my problem by doing what you did, going to Epson support and downloading the Mac 10.15.x Printer Driver v10.33 (for Mac 11.0.1 no less), ran the installer, then was successful at adding my printer in Printers and Scanners. I tried this but it came up as not compatible with Big Sur and the only option I had was to quit. I can no longer use my printer.
nI have spoken to Epsom and they’ve already sorted the problem out and I’m now back up and running.
Why do I have this error
I got in touch with Epson live chat and they sent me a link and I was back up and running within 10 minutes of dealing with them. Well worth you trying that method.
Correction:
The problem is that a v10.85 driver is not yet offered for download via the SX235W support page.
Installed Mac 10.15.x Printer Driver but didn't see any v10.33. Worked perfectly fine though. Phewww!!!!!
After updating to macOS Big Sur my Epson XP 235 Series printer won't print. It worked perfectly with macOS Catalina.
