Brother Printer Drivers for Big Sur.
Updated to Big Sur. My Brother mono laser printer had its driver replaced with the app "Move to Kindle". The Brother website has no listed drivers for Mac OS 11. Any advice?

Hi,
You mentioned that you have tried generic and Gutenprint drivers without success.
For some other models, it has in fact been possible to use a fresh macOS Catalina 10.15 driver even for macOS 11 Big Sur, after a printing system reset (steps in link below). You may have tested this already. If so, please disregard this message. If not, a (version 1.5.0) macOS Catalina 10.15 printer driver download can be found here:
https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=dcp7065dn_all&os=10060
If necessary, try a network connection (LAN port of a Wi-Fi router) for the printer, instead of USB.

I had the exact same problem with the same printer. Check my previous posts from June 6th. You will need to go the Brother customer support website. Download iPrint & Scan, and the iPrint & Scan Push Tool. Follow the instructions. It works!
Have you tried to install drivers from MacOS 10.15?

I was able to download iPrint&Scan. Also needed to download iPrint&Scan Push scan tool. I have an iMac and a DCP7065 DN printer. Check the brother customer support website for what will work with your printer. Remember to go back to your system preferences > network ...to add your printer device. Took a whole day to figure it all out, but am able to scan to email, print, and copy again.
I can confirm that the same trick is working for:
Mac mini M1 macOS Big Sur 11.1
and printer Brother DCP-1610W
Drivers for macOS 10.15 are working fine
Try using the Catalina options. I have Brother 7065DN and was able to make work with Catalina.
This can easily be fixed with the app Brother iPrint&Scan.
it also fixed my scanning problem too.

Did u download iprint&scan push scan tool? Check to see if that is also required. When you try to set-up after downloading, you will get that message if u need it. The download appeared in the upper right corner of my machine as a notification, and i just clicked on that to install....which took about 4 seconds. It took me a while to find where the download went to.
Well, I guess the writings on the wall. Start looking for a replacement but not another Brother. Any printer listed in this Apple document, About AirPrint - Apple Support, is Air Print compatible and you won't have to worry about drivers and system updates any more.
Hi,
Would it be correct to assume that you are using the macOS Catalina 10.15 driver 1.5.0 for printing, but that there is a problem with scanning?

Have you tested scanning via something like Preview or Image Capture, or a third-party driver such as VueScan?
I also had problems when we upgraded to a new computer with Big Sur. Brother told me I needed a new printer as my old one was not compatible with OS 11.
Well. OS 10.5 driver fixed it and it now prints.
I updated my Imac to Big Sur too and then my printer and scanner model mfc-j430w was listed on airprint compatible model, printer works fine but not the scanner. Always pop up notification "failed to open to a connection to the device (-21345)". To ease my life, I downloaded brother iprint and scan app from appstore and it works fine. Hope it helps.
Hello,
The Brother DCP-J1100DW is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. An AirPrint-enabled printer is compatible with macOS (Big Sur). Is your printer wirelessly connected (using AirPrint), or wired via USB?
Which operating system version was in use earlier (when scanning worked)?
Have you tried Image Capture? Anything of interest in 'You do not have permission to open the application' when using a scanner on Mac - Apple Support? Have you tested Brother iPrint&Scan?

Thank you. Downloading that Catalina driver for my Big Sur OS worked, now I can print on my Brother 7065DN machine. I can't believe we needed this type of wacky work around just to print.
Thank you, skappley! I installed the OS 10.15 driver from Brother and I am in business. Many thanks--
