Brother Printer Drivers for Big Sur.
Updated to Big Sur. My Brother mono laser printer had its driver replaced with the app "Move to Kindle". The Brother website has no listed drivers for Mac OS 11. Any advice?

Hi,
You mentioned that you have tried generic and Gutenprint drivers without success.
For some other models, it has in fact been possible to use a fresh macOS Catalina 10.15 driver even for macOS 11 Big Sur, after a printing system reset (steps in link below). You may have tested this already. If so, please disregard this message. If not, a (version 1.5.0) macOS Catalina 10.15 printer driver download can be found here:

If necessary, try a network connection (LAN port of a Wi-Fi router) for the printer, instead of USB.

It worked until the Big Sur upgrade. I'm not planning to revert to Catalina.
Thanks for the tip - I gave it a try and the result is the same. I can print but not scan.
Glad to help.
Hi BeeLian1991,
The following article could perhaps be of some interest as well.

Hey there, biandar.
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Thanks for posting about the issue with your printer after upgrading to macOS Big Sur. We'd be glad to see what we can do to help you out.
The drivers for many printers is actually included in macOS. Find out the model number of your printer and search for it on Printer and scanner drivers for Mac. If the model is not listed on the site at all, you may want to contact the printer manufacturer for details on compatibility and potential drivers. There is a section at the top of that same page with the contact details for many printer manufacturers, so that should get you pointed in the right direction.
Take care.
Bonjour henri200,
Did you also try a fresh download of the macOS Catalina 10.15 version 1.6.0 printer driver? Reset the printing system first.

Look upon this as an experiment. Using an older (64-bit) driver like this has been OK with some other models, but it may not work at all with your printer. Worth a test, though.

I have the brand new MacBook Air with the M1 processor, I don't think Catalina is an option. What is even more annoying is that the Brother iPrint & Scan works on my iPhone. It looks like garbage, but I can print from it. But not from the brand new laptop.
Hello new_septuagenarian,
Yes, I had the same problem with Big Sur and a new Mac Mini (currently macOS 11.4). It's the new Mini with Apple M1 chip and the old macOS 10 driver from Brother works just perfectly. All printer functionalities work: scanning, printing b/w and color, 2-sided, etc. - works exactly the same as on my old Mac.
I don't think there will be any danger trying out the old driver. But anyways, it's always a good idea to have a backup of your new iMac, so make sure to create a backup with Time Machine before installing drivers.
Thank you very much for your suggestion, I had the same problem with my Brother HL-L2320D and after reading your suggestion I downloaded the driver for Catalina 10.15 for it and it worked!
Did u download and run the Push-Scan as well as the iPrint & Scan? You will need the Push-Scan in order to scan.
Hello David7279,
Thank you for your report. I guess that you mean the driver for macOS 10.15. Any information about the printer model? Glad to hear that it now prints.
