Brother Printer Drivers for Big Sur.

Updated to Big Sur. My Brother mono laser printer had its driver replaced with the app "Move to Kindle". The Brother website has no listed drivers for Mac OS 11. Any advice?

Hi,

You mentioned that you have tried generic and Gutenprint drivers without success.

For some other models, it has in fact been possible to use a fresh macOS Catalina 10.15 driver even for macOS 11 Big Sur, after a printing system reset (steps in link below). You may have tested this already. If so, please disregard this message. If not, a (version 1.5.0) macOS Catalina 10.15 printer driver download can be found here:

If necessary, try a network connection (LAN port of a Wi-Fi router) for the printer, instead of USB.

I have a Brother DCP-7030; same issue - printing is fine but trying to use the scanner generates errors.

It seems that Brother has stranded users of these older printers. Their support website states they have no plans to offer drivers for OS 11.5. Their iPrint & Scan app does not support the DCP-7030.

Another perfectly good printer is going to end up in the landfill sooner than I had intended.... and I'm not going to be replacing it with a Brother.

Yeah, I wish that Brother iPrint&Scan would fix it. It doesn't. It only gives me a scan option. I have a Brother DCP-7065DN, which has been my workhorse and a great printer. I have no desire to replace my printer because basic printing functionality is broken on Apple's new OS. This is a truly garbage situation. I have to email my documents to family members to print. I've tried generic drivers, Gutenberg drivers. Nothing. I get a blank page or nothing at all. If I knew that I couldn't print with a brand new laptop, I would have stuck with my old one or bought another manufacturer's laptop. I have been warning everyone I know. If you like to have the ability to print, don't buy the new MacBook or upgrade to Big Sur.

Hi Moto, I have the same issue as you. I have a M1 MacBook Pro and a 2270DW Brother printer (pre-airprint). The MBP won't print when connected with usb. I did connect the printer to the network using WPS, and I have the iprint app on both the computer and my iPhone. The app on my phone recognizes the printer and will print. But the iprint app on the MBP doesn't recognize the printer. Did you find a solution?

were you able to print directly from other sites without converting to a PDF? I’ve not been able to configure how to print batch shipping labels from my website with the brother print app. It’s extremely arduous and unsustainable for the sake of efficiency. I really don’t want to have to get a new printer but I have not been able to figure out what to do and brother customer service is the absolute worst.

Hi Jan

Thanks for your prompt response I have now managed to install the printer driver, and the printer works (DCP-7055w), so glad, thank you for that - one final question if you know, I also tried to install the driver for scanning, by downloading and double clicking however I can't seem to find the icon anywhere to select, I have checked where the printer is located in the system preference - Printer & Scanning, its only showing the printer driver. am I missing something.

Hello again,

Glad to hear that the printing section is working.

I am by no means a scanning specialist. Perhaps someone here (with access to a similar multifunction printer) could provide you with the information needed. In the meantime, anything in the following documents/articles?

If nothing else works, a third-party application called VueScan (https://www.hamrick.com/), that has been recommended by others in many cases, could possibly be of interest to you. Good luck!

Hello,

I also installed both drivers but see just one item under Printers & Scanners, so I guess this is normal. Once you have the scanner driver installed, you still need some software which is capable of scanning.

I personally use "PDFScanner", which is a 3rd party app available on the App Store for a little one-time price. Have been using it for years now and it works great with my Brother multifunction printer.
